Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

OwnerAileen Clarkson, Center Director & Owner

Aileen is originally from Scotland and has an Honors Degree in Mathematics for Business Analysis from Glasgow College. On graduating, Aileen worked in the Aerospace and Manufacturing industries, but continued to tutor Math in her spare time. After her sons were born, she decided to return to her love of Math and worked at one of the largest Kumon centers in England for a year. She then spent the next five years working in Adult Education teaching math at local Community Colleges to adults and at-risk students, and delivering test prep courses.

Aileen and her family moved to Savannah temporarily in 2005 for a year due to her Husband's work at Gulfstream, but after falling in love with Savannah and its' southern charm, they decided to relocate there permanently in 2007 where they now live on Wilmington Island.

Aileen worked as a substitute teacher at a local private school for a year, and has also volunteered at the Royce Adult Education center. Both her sons are graduates from Savannah Arts Academy, her oldest son has a degree in Economics and her youngest son is studying film.  The whole family are avid soccer fans and love to watch their favorite soccer team, Manchester City!

Aileen researched education franchises for over two years and realized the Mathnasium method matched her own way of teaching perfectly. She is excited to bring Mathnasium to Savannah, to continue to give back to her community, and partner with the local schools to build strong math students by "making math make sense".

Cheri Franklin, Lead Instructor

Cheri is a native of Savannah. She holds a Bachelor Of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia and a Master's degree (Early Childhood Education) from Armstrong State College.

Cheri has two adult children and three beautiful grandchildren. She also has an adorable Chiweenie named Coco.  Prior to joining Mathnasium, she  taught for thirty-three years at Button Gwinnett Elementary School where she was a classroom teacher, grade level chairperson, Title I pull-out teacher, Title I summer school teacher , and Academic Coach for grades K-5th .Cheri also served on the school council, held the office of Vice-President for the school's  PTA  organization, wrote the introductory section for the school's SACS report (for school accreditation), was editor of the school's  yearbook , and was  certified as a mentor to new teachers. She also held certification for helping evaluate teacher performance. After the 2011 school year, Cheri retired from classroom teaching.

However, she didn't remain retired for very long. Aileen Clarkson had much to do with this! In February of 2012, Cheri began working for Mathnasium at the Savannah Midtown Center where she holds the position of Lead Instructor. In partnership with the center and the local school board, she is a volunteer with the Operation Beacon program which assists local students in deepening their understanding of  math and helps them to enjoy math.

In her spare time, Cheri enjoys fishing, cooking, visiting local historical sites, and watching sports. She especially enjoys watching basketball and football, with her favorite football team being the Georgia Bulldogs !

Fun Fact: She can fill an entire room of her house with Georgia Bulldog memorabilia! Her favorite mascot is “UGA”, who is owned by the family of an elementary school classmate of Cheri's.

Best Part of Working at Mathnasium: It is more fun than it is work. She loves how the students respond when the skills they are learning make sense to them and their self- confidence soars to a new level. When the math starts making sense and the students begin enjoying what they are doing, then we can have a part in making the future better for these students and anywhere their influence may extend.

 Lindsey Speaks, A+ Instructor

Hi! My name is Lindsey Speaks!  I started loving math in high school at Savannah Arts Academy.  Since then, Math has been the main thing I love.  I graduated from Armstrong State University with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics.  I plan to become an Actuary with a concentration in Health Insurance.

I started my tutoring career as an Armstrong STEM Center Math Tutor during my sophomore year of college.  Being an instructor at Mathnasium allows me to use my passion for Mathematics while continually learning ways to communicate information.

Joe Roberts, A+ Instructor

Joe Roberts has B.S. and M.S. in mathematics from Missouri State University. While in graduate school Joe maintained a 4.0 GPA, wrote a thesis on Fourier Analysis and was a research assistant for summer REU programs funded by the NSF. Research topics in the aforementioned REU programs include page rank algorithms, dynamical systems, commutative graph theory, and convergent polygons.

While involved in graduate work Joe was an instructor for Missouri State University where he primarily worked with remedial students. Additionally, his student evaluations have always scored well above both departmental and university averages. Joe has extensive experience working with both remedial students and students with an extraordinary mathematical track record. At this point in time Joe works as a lecturer in mathematics and a tutor.

Branden Zipperer, A+ Instructor

Hey there!  I'm Branden Z.  Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia.  I have always had an affinity for Math and have always looked for ways to apply it and teach other the joys of mathematics.

I've privately tutored children for years and am working toward a Math Teaching Degree at Georgia Southern.  Being an instructor at Mathnasium allows me to take my experience and knowledge and educate the coming generations.

Savannah Patenaude , A+ Instructor

Savannah was born and raised in -- you guessed, it -- Savannah, Georgia!  Her love of Math was sparked at a young age due to her father being a Math teacher and always nurturing her skills (he eventually would be her Math teacher in 7th Grade!).

Savannah attended Savannah Arts Academy as a Theatre & Dance Major, graduating in 2017.  While there, she took (and exceeded in) several Math classes.  Savannah was also inducted into the National Honors Society and Math Honors Society.

Savannah is currently an Honors student at Georgia Southern University - Armstrong Campus, and hopes to transfer to Georgia Tech to pursue a Biomedical Engineering Degree.

Savannah loves helping our A+ students learn how to make Math make sense, while sharing her love of all things MATH!

Andrew Percival, A+ Instructor

Andrew graduated with a Bachelor's in Mathematics with a focus in Statistics from Armstrong State University.  In his free time, Andrew enjoys solving probability puzzles and reading math trivia books.

Andrew loves being a part of Mathnasium because he loves to explain Math to people and give them a better understanding of material and concepts.  Andrew would eventually like to work in the field of Operations Research or Model Programming.
