Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:
Lori Kim, Center Director
Lori is the Center Director at Mathnasium of South Costa Mesa. Prior to opening her Mathnasium center, Lori was a full time homemaker and raising three teenage girls. She has a BA in Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley.
Having struggled with her own child in math, Lori enrolled her daughter in Mathnasium which ended the homework wars. Witnessing the success of the Mathnasium Method in her own child, she is passionate about teaching other children of all ages how to make math make sense. She firmly believes that every child has the ability to succeed in math and become problem solvers once they understand the concepts. In her spare time, Lori loves to travel and explore different regions of the globe with her husband and three children.
Karenne, Assistant Center Director
Karenne is passionate about helping students discover their own intelligence, particularly in Math, and has nearly ten years of experience tutoring Math. Her number one love and joy is her beautiful rescue dog, Elvis. Karenne is very competitive and likes to be the best at anything she does, and is an unofficial chocolate chip cookie connoisseur. Karenne uses Math to impart knowledge, and in practice she uses Math to make sound consumer decisions. She is fascinated by the Inverse Theorem, in part because it is integral to so much of math, but also to critical thinking.
Matthias, @Home Director
Matthias is a graduate of UC San Diego, with a degree in Mathematics - Computer Science. Prior to joining the South Costa Mesa Mathnasium team, Matthias was the Assistant Center Director of a Mathnasium in La Jolla. Matthias enjoys playing board games with friends, coding, trying new foods, and waiting for the next Marvel movie to be released. In his free time, he loves to visit Disneyland at least two or three times a month. His favorite mathematical concept is pascal's triangle, and not just because it looks cool! His favorite thing about Mathnasium is using his expertise of STEM topics to emphasize the real world importance of the math that a student is learning. He believes that discovering a love of math at a young age is a vital step in any student's education. He provides great leadership for our students while making math fun!
Jensine is starting her second year at the University of California, Irvine. She plays on the water polo team, and is currently double majoring in English and Criminology. She loves playing water polo, swimming, surfing and spending time with friends at the beach. She hopes to help students of all ages gain a more comprehensive understanding of all math concepts, in order to build a foundation for future success in math, in school, and in life! She enjoys connecting with students and watching them learn and grow. Jensine uses math on a daily basis, with everything from grocery shopping to time management. Her favorite math concept is infinity, in particularly the existence of smaller and larger infinities. Out of all the different shapes, heptagons are her favorite because seven is her favorite number.
