WE LOVE MAKING MATH MAKE SENSE!

Tammi Feist, Director

I found Mathnasium as a parent in 2011 and I have been a part of the Mathnasium Family ever since!  I was so impressed with the ATTITUDE change that I witnessed with my children, that I begged the owner to let me (an adult) become a student, then Instructor, then Director.  I opened the South Jordan Mathnasium years ago, had to step away for health reasons, and now, I’m back!  This IS my dream job, in every sense of the word!

I LOVE what Mathnasium can do for anyone!  I love showing students the math behind the everyday activities they already enjoy - music, computer games, sports, etc.- and how setting and achieving a thousand small milestones can help you achieve amazing goals!

As a student, I slogged through math the hard way, trying to memorize each concept separately. It wasn’t until I observed a Mathnasium instructor teaching my own daughter about the Law of Sameness, that I realized there was a much better way! Comprehension vs. Rote Memorization… It was a tremendous cognitive shift for someone who did not love math!

I have a Masters’ Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Brigham Young University, I’m a Master Gardener, and my kids grew up in this area, in these schools. This Center serves MY neighbors and relatives, so I am doubly invested!

My superpower is inspiring students with a new confidence in their OWN ability to succeed!  They can have their own calculator in their head!  I look forward to getting to know each of your children and you… and helping the math they understand help their dreams come true as well!

 CHLOE, Assistant Director

I am so excited to be working here at Mathnasium! When I’m not working or at school, I am probably working on my own music! I’m a musician, and math is extremely useful when writing songs! Music theory and math are very closely tied together. Math is tied closely with so many things, which is what makes it so cool to learn! I’m an avid runner and diet coke drinker, which has nothing to do with math except counting the amount of sodas I can drink in a day!

PRESTON,  Instructor

My name is Preston Malen. I’m studying mathematics at the UofU. I specialize in real analysis & group theory/ abstract algebra. I realize that number theory has really helped me understand the divisibility rules on a deeper level so I love communicating that to my students and showing them why it works. In my free time, I can be found in the mountains or gaming or indulging in Star Wars/Lord of the Rings. Because of my hobbies and interests, I relate to kids very well because, after all, I am still a kid at heart.   I am very excited to help teach the next generation of mathematicians.

KYLE, Lead Instructor

I love using math to solve problems. It’s useful for many different things – including my favorite, coding. Teaching computers to do math makes everyone’s lives easier. I love helping kids find how math applies to their own interests, too.  Outside of math, I like reading fiction, bouldering, and drinking icewater.

JOSH, Instructor

Math has always been one of my most favorite subjects in school, I love seeing how many different ways you can solve a problem. My favorite way to apply math is with ELECTRICITY, so I’m studying to be an Electrical Engineer (Shocking right?) . In my free time I like to play video games and hike. My favorite thing about teaching is playing games with my students to trick them into learning.

SARAH, Instructor

I’m the thrid of 10 kids. I love math, especially algebra! I love how it's kind of a  puzzle that I get to figure out! I like helping students see how math is used everyday, like for cooking or budgeting. I am the SBO President at Mountain Ridge High School, but in my spare time, I love to spend time with family and friends.

EMILY, Instructor

I've wanted to be a math teacher since elementary school.  First, I thought I was bad at math, but reallly, I'm just bad at memorizing!  There is a lot more to math than memorizing!  I have worked at Mathnasium since 2016. I took one break for college and another for an LDS mission, but no matter what, I keep coming back! This is such a wonderful environment where we make learning fun!

WESTON, Instructor

Two things I love are math and hockey! When I first joined hockey, I did not realize how much math I would use!  Successful players in any sport learn to analyze angles and speeds! I am a goaltender, and I see trajectories and puck speeds and angles everywhere!  I am going into the medical field. I am studying at the University of Utah right now.

TYLER, Instructor

Since I was young,  I've found math to be intriguing. I would always ask the question 'why?' because I wanted to know how things work. There is nothing more satisfying than understanding the way things work. I love watching others find the same satisfaction as well. I also enjoy reading, chess, and playing soccer

ELI, Instructor

I love using math whenever I design and build engineering projects. There is nothing as  awesome as when I get to build and test my ideas.

I enjoy making everything from PVC canoes to greenhouses and I use math in all of them!

I am really excited to be working at Mathnasium, so I can help others learn to love math and problem solving like I do!

JOSHUA, Instructor

My name is Joshua Beatty. I am a massive computer and video game nerd! I love all sorts of games and making all sorts of stuff like games and art on the computer. I am also an avid cuber; my personal best for a 3x3 is 16.257 seconds, though I average around 24 seconds. My favorite way to use math is when I use Pgames. Lots of problems come up when designing things for the computer and there are always a billion ways to solve them but math helps me chose the best and most efficient method. I've always loved teaching and I will coach you so that you learn to love math just as much as I do.

ETHAN, Instructor

Math is the universal language of the universe. There is nothing more satisfying than understanding the way things work: physics, finances, & even videogames! I use math all the time when I code. Coding and math both involve the same things: logic, problem solving, and occasional frustration (but I don't let that stop me)! Calculus is my favorite math. I'm so excited to share my passion for how the world works with you!

Emmy, Instructor

My favorite things to do are baking and running! Both use math! If I measure ingredients correctly, delicious chocolate chip cookies are probable ONLY if I use the correct ratios in the recipe. When I rn, I use math to determine my average pace. Math is intriguing and everywhere and can be really fun!

JONAS, Instructor

My 2 passions are math & music. Some people see these as opposites, but they are really similar. Math helps me see how intervals create unique harmonies as well as how to more easily follow chord progressions. Loving math & music have developed creativity, adaptability, and a can-do attitude in me.. and will in you, too!

KAELY, Instructor

When I'm not doing math, I do photography -- which is still math! Great proportions & Ratios make my pictures visually pleasing. Art and math don't have to be different. Math empowers anyone to take more control of heir life: whether it be in homework, cooking, or shopping! I also love chocolate and you can often find me inside a great fiction book.

OwnerMark Minson, Owner

Mark graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS degree in Computer Science and worked as a developer and IT professional for the 15 years. One of his best discoveries through his education and professional experience was math can be fun! After years of tutoring local children in math and being told that teaching is his true calling, Mark decided to pursue Mathnasium. Mark loves math and delights in seeing the light go on when a new concept is understood. He is excited to bring the Mathnasium method to Utah and his community. The prospect of teaching kids to like doing math, just as many like reading, is very exciting. His first clients were, of course, his own daughters. An avid reader and woodworker, Mark also love to snow and water ski. He loves to spend time with his family, skiing in the winter, hiking, and camping in the summer in the wonderful mountains of northern Utah.
