Bryan Carr, Center Director and Owner
Bryan is the Owner and Center Director at Mathnasium of the Southtowns. Prior to opening his Mathnasium center, Bryan's career was focused on the newspaper industry for over 30 years, most recently serving as a Vice President with The Buffalo News, leading an operations management team in manufacturing. He previously held operations positions with the Los Angeles Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer. He has an MBA from the University of Buffalo, a MS from RIT and and a BS from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. Bryan is enthusiastic about helping families and their children master their math!
Abbie started with Mathnasium in February of 2022. She is an NYS Certified Professional Teacher and she is trained in the Mathnasium Method of Math Instruction. Abbe has 12 years of teaching experience with the Holland and Hamburg Central School Districts. She has an MS in Professional Applied Computational Mathematics from Buffalo State and a BA in Mathematics and Minor in Education. Abbie also has significant tutoring experience with Precalculus, Algebra ll, Geometry, Math B and AIS. We are happy to have Abbie with us while she pauses from her professional teaching to raise her family. Her passion for teaching mathematics and it shows as our Mathletes warm up to Abbie quickly with all her experience working with children from all grade levels.
Meet Cassandra Ohnmeiss, "Cassie" as she is known by our Mathletes has been part of the Mathnasium team since August of 2019. She is an outstanding math instructor; she is our homework checking champion! She helps our mathletes review their homework for careless or clueless errors and helps with corrections. Cassie is a stand out at FHS and in her community; as a member of the class of 2021 she's ranked #2 of 344 students and has a GPA of 100! She runs cross country for the lady Falcons and plays violin in FHS Orchestra and fiddle for the Buffalo Bluegrass Ensemble. We are so proud to have Cassie sharing her passion for math with our students. In the Fall she will begin studying chemistry at UB.
Jake is a native of Elma, he joined the #MathnasiumSouthtowns instructional team in October of 2019 when he was a senior at Iroquois HS where he graduated 7th in his class of 170 with an advanced Regents degree . He played baseball for four years with the Chiefs at center field and pitcher. Jake earned a presidential scholarship to attend Fredonia State where he just completed his freshman year with a 4.0 GPA during a pandemic! He's majoring in applied mathematics and pursuing dual minors in data science and statistics. Jake is a huge sports fan and he likes working with BIG Data. His goal is to work with professional sports teams in their analytics department where they find competitive advantages both on and off the field by finding statistical correlations that the teams managers and coaches can use in their strategies to exploit their rivals. Our Mathletes love working with Jake because he's cool and he helps them understand their math in a way that makes sense to them.
Cailey Burke is our newest math instructor from Frontier High School, she joined MathnasiumSouthtowns in early March of this year and will be a senior this coming year. Cailey’s ranked 5th in her class and has just completed AP statistics and will tackle AP Calculus BC in the fall. She is a member of the National Honor Society and mentors students in the foreign language club where she teaches Spanish. In addition to academics, her favorite sport is gymnastics and she is a member of the FHS gymnastics team. Cailey say’s “I enjoy teaching math because I like to help others understand things in a supportive environment in a way that makes sense to them. I liked math because I always felt like it was a puzzle to be solved and that sometimes there were multiple ways to get to the same answer that you might not have realized. I discovered that I like to teach others after helping my younger cousin during a time when she wasn't attending school.” After graduating next spring, Cailey plans to attend a college program focused on majors in forensics or cybersecurity. In her free time, she likes to read and practice viola. Cailey is a great addition to our instructional team and the kids love her.
Harlain came to Mathnasium in June of 2021 as a freshman at the University at Buffalo. She is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Harlain is a 2019 Nardin Academy graduate where she graduated with honors and was awarded the Ruth Kraus Krahe Buettner '46 Math Award Scholar. She is the underclassman representative of the Society of Women Engineers at UB. She is fluent in Hindi and Punjabi and intermediate in Urdu. She enjoys solving problems, teamwork and excels at creativity, and has a passion for learning. Harlain loves numbers and enjoys helping kids learn how and why numbers work.
Joe is currently a senior at Frontier Central High School, he is ranked 14th in his graduating class of 333 with a GPA of 98.7. Joe has been active in sports and music and is a member of the National Honor Society. Volleyball has been his passion for 5 years and he plays the euphonium. Joe had many options for his collegiate career but has chosen to attend University at Albany in August where he will be studying to be actuarial science. Joe enjoys working at Mathnasium because he likes helping others understand the math that he enjoys.
STAR Swimming is Buffalo's premier Olympic development, competitive swim club that offers multi-level programs from "learn to swim" to high level competitive training throughout the Southtowns. STAR swimmers all exhibit 5 key attributes that are critical to growth and success in life; Accountability, Respect, Resilience, Passion and Fun. The Buffalo Sports Commission ranks STAR #3 in generating economic impact behind the Bills and Sabres when accounting for their hosting of major swim meets at their home venue, Flickenger Natatorium.
