Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Hector Diaz

Instructor
Hector graduated from the University of Portland in 2021 with a major in mathematics. He has experience working with children of various ages and backgrounds. He loves math and understands the struggle a lot of students deal with as math was difficult for him over the years. Through his struggles, his goal is to make math less intimidating and more fun by addressing students' needs while making them feel understood and less alone. On his free time, he enjoys playing music as well as exploring the outdoors.

Jacqueline Summerfield

Instructor
Jacqueline taught mathematics in San Francisco area schools at middles school and high school levels, for many years. For the past 6 years, she has been a Mathnasium instructor, first in Southern California, and now at Mathnasium of Sunset. She has a B.A in music from Mills College and a M,A in Education, specializing in computer science, from Stanford University. She loves teaching mathematics, and she is also a jazz and rock pianist/keyboardist. In addition to music and math, Jacqueline enjoys swimming, water-color painting and traveling, most notably to Mount Everest, China and France.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
