Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

 

Peter Garcia, Center Director 
Peter is the Center Director of Mathnasium of Tamiami. Peter first began his journey with   Mathnasium in the summer of 2015 where he instantly fell in love with the environment and   the Mathnasium approach. Nothing brings a smile more to Peter’s face than when a student   finally understands a topic that they have been struggling with, and he aims to see that   smile on all of his students’ faces.
 
 
 

Hobbies: Dungeons and Dragons

Fun Fact: Peter has been with Mathnasium for four years!

Savanna, Assistant Center Director

Savanna is one of the Lead Instructors at Mathnasium of Tamiami. Currently enrolled at Florida International University, she is studying Statistics in her junior year and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. As a young girl, Savanna was super shy, but after numerous years of volunteering at her church and some schools, she loves teaching young students, especially about math. After graduating, Savanna would like to become a data analyst but is open to opening her own Mathnasium!

 

 

Hobbies: volunteering, taking online classes

Fun Fact: Savanna has always wanted to be a teacher, so working at Mathnasium is like her dream job!

Catherine, Lead Instructor

Catherine is currently studying Mathematics at Florida International University. Prior to becoming a tutor, Catherine volunteered for four years at her former elementary school and then upon graduating she was hired as an aftercare counselor where she worked with her former teachers to provide homework help and classroom activities for the students. Ever since 5th grade Catherine has been interested in math, even taking college level math courses during high school. She finds algebra a cakewalk and calculus a breeze. Catherine has a passion for math and it's fundamental makeup. She hopes to inspire others to enjoy math and not be afraid of numbers. 

Hobbies: playing the piano, traveling, and running

Fun Fact: Catherine's goal is to be a college math professor 

Favorite Number: 6, perfect number according to the Pythagoreans

Favorite math joke:  Why was 6 afraid of 7? Because 7, 8, 9!

 

 

Andrew, Instructor

Andrew was born and raised in Miami. He has a master's degree from the University of Central Florida. Andrew enjoys teaching, eating, and listing things in threes. He loves animation, art, and music. He always encourages others when they show creative enthusiasms.

 

 

Hobbies: drawing and playing video games

Fun Fact: Andrew's first and middle names (Charles and Andrew respectively) are both retired hurricane names that have struck Florida.

Favorite Math Joke: Parallel lines have so much in common... it's a shame they'll never meet.

 

 

Michael, Instructor

Michael is a Florida International University Alumnus with a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a Minor in Chemistry. Prior to joining Mathnasium, Michael has previous teaching experiences as a Biological Sciences and Calculus I&II Learning Assistant, independent tutor, and Ecology Peer Led Team Learning (PLTL) Leader.  Additionally, Michael loves working with children as he has completed 400+ hours of volunteer experience at Nicklaus Childrens Hospital. Michael believes children can achieve a solid foundation in educational subjects by developing a positive attitude towards academics. 

 

Hobbies: basketball, reading, volunteering

Fun Fact: Michael can solve a rubix cube
