To celebrate the opening of the first ever Mathnasium in Scotland, we were delighted to host a number of guests at our Grand opening event on Saturday.
We were delighted to be joined by John Preston and Helen Thompson from the Mathnasium Head office, who flew up from London, braving Storm Eowyn !
The ribbons was cut by our Centre Director, Saqibs lovely mother. Saqib wanted his mum to be the 'Celebrity' to cut the ribbon which was a very special moment for us all. All the parents who bring their children to Mathnasium make many sacrifices to enable their children to get ahead in life. Saqibs mother, cutting the ribbon was therefore so apt.
Some of our guests of honour, Chris Mackison, the Head of Maths at Eastwood High was in attendance with us. It was lovely to hear from Chris, his passion for maths and teaching others to excel in Maths was truly evident and our community is truly a better place with people like Chris at the helm. It was also great to hear how well the students at Eastwood perform in Maths, this is a culmination of all the hard work and effort put in by Chris and his team and we commend each and every one of them.
It was also great to spend time with Dr David Young, one of the senior lecturers at the University of Strathclyde in Mathematics & Statistics. He is also a consultant statistician for the NHS. We all know the importance that statistics plays in the everyday world, in healthcare & medicine, Business & economics , education, government and technology, in a world where AI (Artificial Intelligence) is taking more and more prominence, it was great to have someone of David's standing joining us and we were very appreciative of his time with us. We asked David for his thoughts about Mathnasium and he said;
‘The University of Strathclyde has done research on success at university in relation to entry qualifications, and found that students with the best mathematical ability achieve higher degree awards in the science and engineering faculties. It’s encouraging to see a provision like Mathnasium which can engage young people from an early age to make maths fun, interesting and relevant and hopefully set up their candidates for real success in the future’
We would also especially like to thank our clients, who have showed faith in us, since day one, we are truly grateful for you attending and having belief in us. The responsibility and accountability in which we hold ourselves in regards to building maths confidence within your precious children, is something we do not take lightly. We will endeavour to make Maths a topic of joy for each and every one of yoru children, mark our words !
