Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Kimani Thomas-Fitzsimons

Educational Director
Kimani is a New York City native who pursued her love of music attending performance-based public schools including the critically acclaimed Laguardia Arts High School as a vocal major. In addition to her artistic skills, she also excelled in Math and Science, always a step ahead of her peers. Knowing she could follow her music passion outside of college, Kimani earned a BA in Mathematics and a minor in Business of Entertainment Media and Technology at New York University. Being 1 of 7 black students to do so while also dealing with the lack of adequate and diversified mentorship, Kimani yearned to bring more inclusivity to the face of STEM. Exploring different avenues for career development, she began experimenting with math tutoring in her community when her neighbor inquired about math help with his grandson. Realizing her growing love for educating the youth, and her evident popularity amongst children she decided to hone in on her tutoring skills professionally, joining the Mathnasium community. Believing in equal educational opportunities for all, Kimani has plans to open her own nonprofit math tutoring company for unserved communities in New York City.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
