Mathnasium Upper East Side is run by its dedicated Educational Directors, Stephanie Leiva and Harrison Friedman, along with Mathnasium of Manhattan & Affiliates franchise Directors Bailey Stanbury and Greg Barasch.

Stephanie Leiva, Educational Director

Stephanie has always had a passion for math as well as the arts. This passion lead to Stephanie completing Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Theatre Arts at Rutgers University. Shortly after graduation, Stephanie started as an Instructor working at all of the Mathnasium of Manhattan centers and has been an Educational Director since 2018.

Stephanie wishes to debunk the myth that "only some people are good at math." She truly believes that every child can succeed in math! Stephanie's dual background in math and the arts solidifies her beliefs that you can approach math in both a logical and creative way. Math exists beyond a sheet of paper, it exists all around! Stephanie’s fun and energetic personality helps her connect with students in a way that makes math fun and exciting. She is thankful for the opportunity through Mathnasium to help children develop confidence and build a love for math!

Harrison Friedman, Educational Director

Harrison has always enjoyed math, science, and the arts. Harrison has a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Binghamton University, where he was also a member of the theatre department and performed with the acapella group, No Strings Attached.

Harrison truly believes that Mathnasium's curriculum teaches math while its instructors teach confidence, trust, and the ability to ask for help. A firm believer in mental health, he feels the instructors are role models for students who are both advanced and behind -- who may need an example of how to keep working while still getting to have fun!

A member of the team since 2017, Harrison is excited to be taking on the role of Co-Educational Director of Mathnasium of the Upper East Side.

Directors – Bailey Stanbury and Greg Barasch

Bailey Stanbury, Director of Education

Bailey began her Mathnasium career as an Instructor in the Toms River, NJ center in late 2012. She then joined the Mathnasium of Manhattan team as an Instructor in April of 2013 at the Upper East Side and Upper West Side Centers and was quickly promoted to the role of Assistant Director.  Starting in January of 2014, Bailey served as an Educational Director of the Union Square Mathnasium Center, then served the Upper East Side Center and Union Square Center in this same capacity along with Greg Barasch. Since 2018, she has helped lead the Mathnasium of Manhattan & Affiliates franchise as its overall Director of Education.

While Bailey's passion for education started at an early age, Bailey further improved her skills at The Pennsylvania State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Mathematics Education. Whether being part of the largest student run philanthropy in the world, educating NCAA athletes, or assisting special needs students, no task was too challenging for Bailey. Upon graduating PSU with honors, she taught middle and high school math classes in New Jersey in addition to her work with Mathnasium of Toms River.

Bailey is proud to make a significant impact on the lives of children through Mathnasium and gains great personal satisfaction from experiencing students' progress.  For Bailey, the thrill of witnessing students apply mathematical concepts to everyday life is the greatest reward.  Her fun and energetic personality helps her connect with students in a way that makes math fun and exciting.

Bailey is truly thankful for the opportunity to work with so many wonderful families of the Upper East Side and Lower Manhattan neighborhoods and looks forward to welcoming many more students to our growing Mathnasium community.

Greg Barasch, Director of Center Business Systems

A long-time member of the Upper West Side Mathnasium instruction team, Greg was introduced to a larger role at the Upper East Side and Union Square Centers in July 2015. In serving as an Educational Director of these two centers along with Bailey Stanbury, Greg helped bring a fresh perspective and hopes to continue making an impact on the children and families he is now helping to support. Since 2018, he has helped lead the Mathnasium of Manhattan & Affiliates franchise as its overall Director of Center Business Systems.

Greg's extensive history of Mathnasium instruction allows him to provide a flexibe, caring, student-centric approach toward building learning plans and nurturing mathematical growth for students of the Upper East Side and Union Square centers. Greg prides himself on ensuring that every Mathnasium session is as fun and meaningful as possible for each student and on delivering open communication with students and parents alike.

Greg graduated from Manhattan College in 2011 with a degree in civil engineering and mathematics after growing up in Manhattan with a childhood full of experience as a New York City school student. Greg loved math from a young age and is now delighted for the opportunity to come full circle and engage New York City children in math from a professional standpoint.
