Derek Pipkorn, Owner/Center Director
Hi! I'm Derek, the Owner and Center Director of Mathnasium of Wauwatosa. Prior to opening this Mathnasium center, I worked as a Middle School Math Specialist in the Mequon-Thiensville School District. I previously taught elementary and middle school students in Milwaukee Public Schools and the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District. I have a Masters of Educational Leadership from Cardinal Stritch University and a BS in Middle Childhood - Early Adolescence Education with math emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
I've been actively involved in math organizations at the State and National level. I was previously the chair of the Classroom Resources Committee for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and recently finished a term on the Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Math Council. I have taught and tutored children of all ages, and I am committed to bringing the Mathnasium Method to the children in the community I live in. Married to Jillian and dog owner of Willie (corgi), I love staying active in the Wauwatosa community and enjoying all that the Greater Milwaukee area has to offer.
Jon, Lead Instructor
Hello! My name is Jon and I am an instructor here at Mathnasium of Wauwatosa. I graduated from UW-Whitewater with a degree in Finance. I have always excelled at math and found it fascinating how math can be used in almost every situation in life. I’ve lived in Wisconsin my whole life and graduated from Wauwatosa East, where I ran track and played football. I enjoy playing/watching most sports, especially the Badger, Packers and Bucks. Recently, I worked as a Walt Disney Intern in Florida, where I enjoyed working with thousands of kids every day! I can’t wait to share my passion of math with the students in the Tosa area.
Hi! I’m Mary! I love math and am very excited to help in Tosa’s new Mathnasium! I’m from the Lexington, Kentucky area and moved to Wauwatosa in 2014 where I really enjoy the community. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Kentucky University with teaching degrees for middle school mathematics and special education K -12 and completed my Masters Degree in Special Education. I’ve taught middle school mathematics for over 20 years, during which time I’ve served on various teams and committees to advance math education. I’ve obtained National Board Certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in middle school math and have mentored and instructed teachers in their pursuit of education excellence. I'm currently a math interventionist for the West Allis - West Milwaukee School District. My goal is to understand how individual students can relate to math in a way that makes sense to them. When I’m not teaching, I’m usually enjoying my family and their many activities. I love to crochet and play math-related video games, as well as to travel and the fine arts. I believe learning is fun!
Salutations! My name is Zoe and I am thrilled to be an instructor here at Mathnasium in Wauwatosa. As an alum of both Christ King School and DSHA, I am no stranger to Tosa. The last 4 years, however, I attended Rhodes College, a liberal arts school in Memphis, TN. I earned a degree in Math & Economics and have returned to the good ole’ Midwest to pursue a PhD in Economics at UW-Milwaukee. Since age 14, I’ve tutored a variety of people in a variety of subjects (but mostly math, yay!) and I hope to be a professor some day. In my free time, I enjoy working out at the WAC, spending long hours in Colectivo and seeing movies with my parents. I’ve also been known to run off to China every now and again to improve my Mandarin! Well, that’s all for now folks, see you out there with the fractions.
Hey there! My name is Katie and I’m excited to be an instructor at Mathnasium of Wauwatosa! I am an elementary Special Education Teacher in the Milwaukee Public School District which I thoroughly enjoy every day. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education. After working with students who were struggling learners, I found my calling and earned my degree in Cross-Categorical Special Education. I am a firm believer in being a lifelong learner and began taking graduate math classes through the University of Milwaukee in the area of Teaching Elementary Math. Much like the students who come to Mathnasium, math wasn’t always my strongest subject. I hope to instill a lifelong curiosity of mathematics into the students who come to Mathnasium. In my spare time, I LOVE watching Wisconsin sports (especially the Packers) and exploring all that Milwaukee and the rest of Wisconsin has to offer.
Howdy, I'm Preston! I am a transplant to Wauwatosa all the way from Texas. I am currently a doctoral student at UW Milwaukee, pursuing a Ph.D. in Mathematics with a focus in Real Analysis. My passion for math stemmed from playing video games as a kid. I started off college as an Education major, but then quickly realized that math was my path. I graduated with my B.S. in Mathematics from Texas State University in 2012 and then with my Master's from The University of Texas San Antonio in 2014. I have taught and tutored from elementary all the way to college level throughout these years. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, my 2 dogs (Meeko and Sade), playing video games, cooking, boxing, and the much cooler weather of Wisconsin.
Hi! My name is Matt! I'm a graduate of Iowa State University, with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, and I am currently studying as a seminary student in Mequon. As a former adjunct professor and math instructor, I've seen how important math can be for people in all walks of life, and I'm excited to work at Mathnasium of Wauwatosa to be able to make a positive impact for kids as they grow in their math skills! When I'm not working or studying, my wife, Kaylee, and I enjoy reading, walking in the park by our house, and volunteering to support the school where she teaches. I also enjoy watching, playing, or talking about sports: especially soccer and basketball!
Hi! I’m Bryanna and I am very excited to be an instructor at Mathnasium of Wauwatosa! I'm a 5th Grade teacher at St. Joseph's in Wauwatosa.
