Have you heard of the "COVID Slide"?

May 5, 2020 | West Lexington

It is the time of year where Mathnasium normally has been talking with you about avoiding the "Summer Slide".  As the normality of life left us all several weeks ago, the Summer Slide has been replaced by something researchers are calling the "COVID Slide".

Past research from the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) has shown that in a normal situation students can experience a summer learning loss ranging from a couple of weeks up to a couple of months of math gains from the previous school year.  This research has shown that students in the 4th and 5th grade range are prone to experience more loss than any other age group.  This possible larger loss is due to the rapid educational growth experienced by students in these years.  The NWEA is predicting the slide for this summer could be anything but normal.

How is Mathnasium preparing to help your student?

Mathnasium of West Lexington is committed to meeting children where they are and finding out how we can best serve your children in their educational journey.  We are committed to providing an emotionally safe place for your children to be able to see success in their math studies through celebrating the learning that comes from mistakes, caring and thoughful instruction from our team of instructors, and constant reassessing how we can best serve your children.  Through the Mathnasium @Home program we are able to offer these services to your children through online learning sessions that keep our methods the same as in-person sessions, but afford us the avenue to connect with your family through the safety and convenience of online sessions.

Mathnasium of West Lexington will be continuing to offer our services throughout the summer, whether it be completely online or in-person when we are able to open the Center back up.  We are convinced that through the work of your children, support of their family, and Mathnasium all working together we can alleviate some of the effects of the looming "COVID Slide" this summer.  We are excited to be able to help fill in gaps of misunderstandings and prepare your children for the beginning of next school year.  This is a summer of us all working to move through a difficult time and focus on how to come through this time stronger and more prepared for what lays ahead of us!!
