Julio Jimenez, Center Director
Julio received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics at Wichita State University.
He was born and raised in Nicaragua, Central America and became an American citizen in 2018. He became an enthusiastic advisor and mentor for immigrants pursuing his achieved American dream! Julio has volunteered teaching ESL and citizenship preparation workshops, and proudly attends their induction ceremonies as new American Citizens.
Julio loves teaching Math. Through church volunteering, Julio has tutored and mentored children in different subjects as well as encouraging and advising them in their college career planning. Julio genuinely believes that a well-rounded education is critical for a better future.
Julio and his family loves to visit the Lego Store “Pick a Brick Wall” wherever they can.
Favorite Number: "7", an early prime number in the series of positive integers. In the Bible, God communicates the idea of divine completeness, perfection, and wholeness by means of the number 7.
Favorite Math Joke: Why was the fraction worried about marrying the decimal? Because she would have to convert.
Fun Fact: Julio has visited every one of the U.S. 48 contiguous States (pending Alaska and Hawaii, which were the last states to join the Union, so… it just makes sense!), and plans to complete the 50 soon!
I love Mathnasium because: My favorite topic to tutor is Mathematics. I have seen how students became discouraged because they don't have a solid math foundation. I believe the Mathnasium method is unique and gives the student the ability to continue learning in the years to come.
Ed Boley, Assistant Center Director
Ed holds a BS in Math and a BS in Computer Science from Wichita State University and has his MBA from Newman University. Besides being an instructor at Mathnasium, Ed also works as a para-educator for the Sedgwick County Area Educational Services Interlocal Coop.
Favorite Number: "11" Was his jersey number in grade school basketball. You're a "10" and number "1". What can be better?
Favorite Math Joke: Why is the equal sign(=)so humble? Because he doesn’t claim to be greater than (>) or less than(<) anyone else!
Fun Fact: Ed loves to be on stage. He started at age 4 doing tap and singing. He has been in several musicals in community theatres, and been a choir director for several groups. Ed currently directs a choir at church.
I love Mathnasium because: It helps students to create a solid base of the beautiful language of math that will help them throughout their life. To be a part of something that helps to make math more positive is an exciting opportunity.
Anthony Hampton, Lead Instructor
Anthony is currently attending Wichita State University. He is pursuing a secondary education math major. He is also an experienced bowling coach at West Acres in Wichita.
Favorite Number: "4" His favorite month is April.
Favorite Math Joke: Why is the obtuse triangle always upset? Because its never right !
Fun Fact: Anthony is also a carpenter

Steve Gonzales, Instructor
Steve earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico. After 39 years he retired from the Aerospace industry. He was Scoutmaster for St. Francis of Assisi church and loves to camp and hike.
Favorite Number: Infinity - it goes on forever.
Favorite Math Joke: 3 out of 2 people have trouble with fractions!
Fun Fact: Star Trek fan and occasionally wears Spock ears.
I love Mathnasium because: Guiding and coaching a student through a challenging math concept and watching them succeed builds their confidence in math and in themselves. Mathnasium instruction methods alleviate the "I'm not good at math" feeling. And...it's fun!
Bernarr Wharton, Instructor
Bernarr has a BS in Math and MS in Education. He has tutored math for 46 years.
Favorite Number: "13" It's his daughter’s number.
Favorite Math Joke: The "2" asked the square root of "-2" "Why are you so irrational?"
Fun Fact: Bernarr has umpired for 28 years.

Jared Hoppis Ph.D., Instructor
Jared was born and raised in Wichita, attended WSU for my Bachelor's and KSU for graduate school. While at K-State, he received a Ph.D. in mathmatical complex analysis. He loves board games and my favorite is "Hero Realms."

I love Mathnasium because: We start helping students to learn based on what skill they have, not necessarily at their current grade level. I also love the focus on mental math.
L'Exus Dallas, Instructor
L’Exus is a senior at Wichita East High School. She is involved in the Wichita Mayor’s Youth Council, Wichita Symphony Youth Orchestra, the East High Debate/Forensics Team, and is on the East High softball team. She plans to go to college out-of-state next year.
Favorite Number: "35" It’s the jersey number of my favorite NBA player - Kevin Durant
Favorite Math Joke: "Why was the math book sad? It had a lot of problems.
Fun Fact: L’Exus has played the violin since the 6th grade.
I love Mathnasium because: It is personalized math instruction. Math is a tough subject to master, and many people just need some one-on-one attention and specialized help, and they can get it here.
Rick Conklin, Owner
Rick assumed ownership of the West Wichita Mathnasium Learning Center in late 2016. He's always had a passion for helping others. Prior to Mathnasium, Rick was a successful entrepreneur and businessman in Wichita. After decades working with employees of all backgrounds and abilities, Rick has seen firsthand how math skills can enrich lives and open doors for individuals both in school and beyond.
Rick decided to invest in Mathnasium because it can truly change the lives of students at all levels. His lifelong passion for helping others has included volunteering as an AWANA leader, children's Sunday School teacher, and other volunteer activities through his church in Wichita. Rick attended both Wichita State University and the University of Kansas. Rick and his wife Susan have two adult daughters and two grandsons.
Fun Fact: Rick is an IFR rated private pilot.
