Our staff is built to teach each student individually, to develop the skills they need to thrive in mathematics, and to foster a love of learning.

Jennifer Speer

Owner

Jennifer has a unique perspective that allows her to understand your kids and help them. She is a successful business owner and homeschooling mom of 3! She has the perspective of an educator as well as a busy parent and knows the challenges of both. Jennifer knows how to engage the kids and hold their interest. She keeps them progressing in math in a way they will actually enjoy!

Jennifer has always had a strong grip on Mathematics, earning her B.B.A in Finance at Southwest Texas State University and then owning and operating a successful business for over 10 years in the Brazos Valley alongside her husband James. After finding Mathnasium and seeing what it can offer kids, they made a tough decision to sell their successful business with its comfortable lifestyle and start all over again.

As scary as that sounds, they knew that parents in the Brazos Valley wanted the best for their children at an affordable price. There was already so much available for the many college students in Bryan/College Station, but not for elementary, middle, and high school students. Now, after being open for several years and expanding to multiple locations, we have hundreds of amazing success stories as a result of our passionate instructors, inspiring learning environment, teaching style and curriculum at Mathnasium! Let us help your student!

Favorite Math Joke: There are 3 kinds of people in this world... Those who can count, and those who can't.

Fun Fact: Graduated College in 3 1/2 years with a 4.0!

I love Mathnasium because: "I get to be a part of a great organzation that changes kids' lives! Who wouldn't want to be a part of that?!?"

Larry Martinek

Creator of the Mathnasium Method

Larry has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting students' ability to “do” math, thereby increasing students' math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program – one of the most comprehensive and innovative curricula ever produced for teaching math.

While Larry is not an Instructor at our Center, he is a valuable asset we can call on to ask about specific students' scenarios for guidance and advice. This has helped to make visits more productive and enjoyable for many of our students.

Jenna Sheehan

Lead Instructor

Jenna is a student at UTSA working towards her degree in Cyber Security. When she isn't teaching math and doing school work, she enjoys makeup, dancing, and art. Before joining the Mathnasium of Wurzbach family, she worked her way up from instructor to Center Director at Mathnasium of Bulverde South. She hopes to one day own a Mathnasium of her own to continue helping students.

Favorite number: Pi is such an interesting number. It's found everywhere in nature, and there is even a language based off of it!

Favorite math joke: Why is the obtuse triangle always upset? Because it's never right!

In five years, I will be: Working at a cyber security firm , but still making time to help students with math.

I love Mathnasium because...: : I have been able to see students develop the confidence in math they never thought possible. Mathnasium helps math make sense to students, and it shows them they don't need to be afraid of math.

Olivia Aubone

Instructor

Olivia recently graduated from Churchill High School, and is soon to be a student at UTSA. She loves to listen to music and go on hikes.

Favorite number: 3, It was my jersey number on my soccer team!

Favorite math joke: What did the mean triangle say to the circle? You're pointless!

In five years, I will be: Finishing school with a degree in Environmental Engineering.

I love Mathnasium because: I came here as a child and loved it, and now I get to see other students develop a liking for math as well!

Puja Subedi

Instructor

Puja is currently attending UTSA majoring in Biology with a concentration in premedical sciences. She plans on going to medical school through the Air Force to do orthopedic surgery. In her free time, she enjoys taking her dog Lola on hikes, cooking, and playing the piano.

Favorite number: 13, it has been my lucky number since I was a child.

Favorite math joke: I saw my math teacher with a piece of graph paper yesterday. I think he must be plotting something.

In five years, I will be: Finishing up medical school about to do my residency.

I love Mathnasium because: I enjoy seeing kids light up when they have their lightbulb moments learning.

Jesus Cabrales

Instructor

Jesus studied in the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley aiming towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. He went to university for five years and moved to San Antonio to pursue bigger things in life and found Mathnasium: The Math Learning Center where he is able to gain more experience towards learning how to teach. While teaching was not always his goal, it recently popped up as an exciting idea to work towards for him.

Favorite Number: 17 - I always liked the number 7 and the number 1, and I figured out later on in life that combining them made an even better number. Most numerical preferences of mine come back to variations of these two numbers, such as 1771, 77, 71 or even 777 just for the luck aspect.

Favorite Math Joke: Why did the student start doing his multiplication problems on the floor? The teacher had told him not to use tables.

In five years, I will be: Successful and helping those around me. I hope to experience enough in life to where I can start my own business someday and have that going on the side while I pursue some form of career that can benefit my community, such as teaching.

I love Mathnasium because: It is a place where math becomes easier for people. For a majority of people, math is seen as a challenge and some choose to try to avoid it instead of tackle it. Whether alone or with some help, figuring out a hard math problem and understanding it is always a joyous moment. Being able to share that moment surrounded with people who want to see improvement only adds to the feeling.

Seth Carr

Instructor

: Seth comes from New Haven, Connecticut. After moving to Texas, he wanted to continue his passion for education and math, and Mathnasium gave that opportunity.

Favorite number: My favorite number is 1729. An old mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan once entered a taxi car, with 1729 as its number. The driver found it to be a "rather dull number," but Ramanujan was a very big fan of numbers, so he told the driver of a special property it had. It is the smallest number that can be expressed as two different sums of cubes, 1^3 + 12^3 = 9^3 + 10^3 = 1729. To this day, as a result of this story, this number is one of the taxicab numbers!

Favorite math joke: What did the acorn say when he grew up? Geometry

In five years, I will be: Working on my Journeyman's electrician license.

I love Mathnasium because: I believe in its method. I've seen the difference a solid foundation can make in a student's ability to problem solve, and ensuring that no part of the education is left out makes an astronomical difference.

Our Mathnasium Mission

Teach children math so they understand it, master it, and love it. Math can change their lives, and they can change the world.

What I love about Mathnasium is the ability to teach problem-solving skills and make math make sense, while also making a student smile.
