Our Team
Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:
Julie Montieth, Center Director and Owner
Prior to opening Mathnasium of Yorktown South, Julie was a teacher in California, then a substitute teacher as her military family moved to multiple states and countries. As a teacher and mother, Julie has both a professional and a personal understanding of education and is a firm believer that learning is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. She appreciates how the Mathnasium Method meets the student where he/she is and tailors its program to meet their personal needs.
Connor, Assistant Center Director
Connor was an orchestra student at Woodside High School before grduating with a degree in mathematics from James Madison University. He is an amateur horticulturalist currently growing his own orchard.
Jenaya, Lead Instructor
Jenaya is a Chemistry graduate from Norhtern Arizona University, and got her Master's in Secondary Education for Mathematics. She taught for one year before the military brought her out to the east coast. She taught geometry an additional two years in Charleston, before moving out here to Virginia and teaching at Brandon Middle School. She loves working out and spending time with her daughter, husband 3 dogs!
Amber, Lead Instructor
Amber graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in math. When she isn't at Mathnasium she can be found teaching geometry at Bethel High School or spending time with her family.
Adam, Instructor
Adam is a student at CNU majoring in mathematics. He hopes to follow in his father's footsteps and become a math professor. In his free time, he enjoys puzzles, games, and candy.
Bruce, Instructor
Bruce graduated from North Carolina A&T with an electrical engineering degree. He enjoys sports, helping others, and learning.
