Mathnasium Feature: Tessellation Event - What are tessellations?
Mar 30, 2021
Tessellations are an example of when two great things - math and art come together!
Tessellations are patterns that can continue on forever in order to fill up an entire space. They often use rigid transformations such as reflections, rotations, and translations to tile a plane, with no gaps between pieces of a tessellation.
Students often are first exposed to these type of “flip, turn, slide” motions in elementary and middle school, but usually revisit them in more detail once they start high school geometry - so this event is perfect for all ages and abilities!
