New Academic School Year and New Quarter System?

Sep 12, 2020 | Chula Vista

The new school year has been in full swing for a few weeks now and many students are still trying to figure out their schedules and get back into a routine.

This academic year is one that many families have never experienced before with some schools offering remote learning, some schools are transitioning back on campus, and many middle shcool and high schoolers are in a new quarter system.

Many might ask what is the difference between a semester and quarter system?

The main difference between a semester and quarter is generally how the academic year is being divided.  Semesters split the school year into two general parts; the fall semester and spring semester. Quarters split the school year even furhter into four parts; the fall, winter, spring and summer quarters.

So what will this mean for the students that have never exeperienced a quarter system before?

Since the academic year is split up even more, the pace of the class will have to move at a faster pace and students will be expected to stay on track all while still getting into a new routine.

This new experience can be truly alarming for students that are taking advanced math courses since their scheduled coursework is already planned to go at an accelerated speed!

Mathnasium identifies the uncertainty many students are experiencing due to all these new transitions.
