To All of Our Teachers, Thank You!

“Teachers can change lives with just the right mix of chalk and challenges.”
-Joyce Meyer

This year, Teacher Appreciation Week is being celebrated from Monday, May 6th - Friday, May 10th. We work alongside our students’ teachers throughout the year to fill in gaps and provide support - and we couldn’t be more appreciative of their efforts. Let’s shower our teachers with all of the appreciation they can stand!

3 Small Ways to Show Your Appreciation

Write a Thank You Card or Letter to Your Child’s Favorite Teacher
This is a great activity for you and your child! Use our template or one of the thousands available online to create a Thank You Card and let your teacher know they’re appreciated. You might even consider reaching out to past teachers through email or Facebook!

Tell Stories About Your Favorite Teacher
Hold a family story time and talk about your time in school - and the teachers who helped you succeed! Your kids will love to learn more about your childhood, and this can be a great bonding opportunity.

Students can also ask Mathnasium staff about their favorite teachers this week (or any week, we love to talk about them!) during their visits. We’ve shared a couple down below as well! ⬇️

"Mr Kauffman was my favorite teacher for 10th grade Algebra II at Hayfield Secondary School. He was extremely dedicated to making sure every student understood each topic, spending time in lunch and after school to ensure success. He made math fun and enjoyable"

"I have many top teachers in mind that have left an impact on my life but one stands out like no other. His name was Mr. Bowe and he was the replacement teacher who came in to replace my 3rd grade teacher early in the year. He was the type of teacher to QB for both teams at recess and give the winning team jolly ranchers after no matter who their teacher was. He allowed everyone to express themselves and be comfortable but garnered respect when he needed the class to correct their behavior. Every week he would have the class play a game called "Around the World" where my love for math was born and bloomed. This was a times tables competition where students would compete against one another on who could answer multiplication flash cards the fastest. Utilizing kids natural competitiveness observed at recess, he channelled that into a fun way for us to practice and master the often "difficult" but important skill of multiplication. The student who was able to beat the entire class and win the finals between the top 2 students was rewarded with an abundance of jolly ranchers. This was all I needed to become the best in the class, winning nearly every time with one student being the primary rival in the final showdown. This is just one example of his teaching style that led to the start of an exciting journey with higher education. That year, the first year of SOLs, I scored the 2nd highest average in the entire county and was put into the gifted program known at the time as SIGNET, with every subject being listed as the reasons for the consideration. My twin brother, who had a separate teacher that year, was considered for the same program but for only one subject. His impact on my education and professional career cannot be understated and I am blessed to have had the pleasure of experiencing his mentorship at such a young age."

"" My favorite teacher was Mrs. Garcia, my 10th-grade biology teacher. What set her apart was her passion for the subject and her dedication to her students' understanding. Mrs. Garcia had this incredible ability to make complex biological concepts not only understandable but fascinating. One time, she brought in a microscope and slides so we could explore cells up close, which was both thrilling and eye-opening. But what truly made Mrs. Garcia my favorite teacher was her support and encouragement. She took the time to get to know each student individually, changing her teaching approach to suit our needs. Whenever someone struggled with a concept, she would patiently work with them until they grasped it, never making anyone feel behind. Mrs. Garcia's enthusiasm for biology was contagious, and it sparked a genuine interest in the subject for me and many of my classmates. Even outside the classroom, she would organize field trips to a nature reserves.""
