Q: What did you think Mathnasium would be like before you came here?
A: I thought Mathnasium would be like a gymnasium with math stuff in it or I thought I would be in a white box cubicle, with a table and two chairs. I felt like it would be awkward and I was a little nervous. I thought I would be by myself with a person talking to me.
Q: What is your favorite thing that’s happened to you at Mathnasium?
A: My favorite thing about being at Mathnasium is making new friends and being able to get into advanced math this year! I thought I would always be in an average math class forever and being put into an advanced math class makes me feel smart, and my confidence has skyrocketed. I feel like I can accomplish what I put my mind to.
Q: Do you like math more now that you’ve been coming to Mathnasium?
A: Before Mathnasium, I really struggled in math and did not like it! Now that I have been attending Mathnasium, it makes sense and I understand it so much better.
Q: Do you feel like math is easier at school since you’ve been coming to Mathnasium?
A: Yes, Mathnasium makes school feel so much easier and I feel strong! I can now raise my hand and explain the answer without feeling uncomfortable in front of the other kids.
Q: What kind of math are you working on right now?
A: This year, I am going to be in 7th grade taking an 8th grade math class and that rocks!
Q: Do you think other kids at your school would be better at math if they came to Mathnasium too?
A: Oh yeah. I see a lot of kids struggle when it comes to math. I notice that when the teacher teaches math, they don't always teach it in multiple ways and the kids get more confused. The teacher only teaches it the way she likes and that doesn't work for everyone. Being a student at Mathnasium, I have learned multiple ways to solve a problem because I have the advantage of working with multiple instructors and I can choose the best way for me.
Q: What happened to your test scores and grades (in math class) after you started coming to Mathnasium?
A: When I started at Mathnasium, I was mostly a C student with an occasional D or F and now, I am an A student. I scored high on my state assessment which allowed me to move to advanced math this year!
Q: Do your parents think Mathnasium is helping you learn math?
A: My parents were so proud shortly after I started at Mathnasium because my grades went up and my quarterly FAST test moved to green, and then to blue which is the highest! They reminded me that when they brought me here the first time, they felt this would be a great place for me and I didn't believe them. I know now they were right. Mathnasium changed my life!
Q: Do you think your parents would understand the math you’re learning at Mathnasium?
A: My dad has come in and reviewed my assessments with the CD, and he gets so confused. He did grow up in another country and things are different here in America. My dad is really good in math but he is glad that Mathnasium is working with me. Dad and I are so similar, and both of us get frustrated when we work together so Mathnasium solves that issue.
Q: Have you ever brought math homework from school to Mathnasium? What was it like to get homework help?
A: Getting homework help at Mathnasium has given me more advantages. Doing homework with an instructor helps me stay focused. I have more options on how to do an equation. I am not having to look up help on google which is super confusing and super time-consuming; parents think I am wasting time scrolling but in truth, I am trying to get help. Mathnasium changed all of that for me, and I no longer have to feel frustrated and alone in that!
