Q1: ๐ก What is the most rewarding part of working with Mathnasium students?
A: I think the most rewarding part of being an instructor is seeing the kids grow in their math abilities. A lot of the kids come in very nervous and with low confidence. So seeing them open up and become happier doing a subject they once hated is always really great to see!
Q2: ๐ What is one math tip or trick you often share with students?
A: I think multiplication is really hard for some students to fully grasp, and I notice a lot of them struggle when they get to the bigger numbers like 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s. That's why I love showing kids the multiplying by 9s trick with the use of fingers. It makes it much easier for them to start learning their 9s facts!
Q3: ๐ What qualities do you see in students who make the most progress at Mathnasium?
A: The ones who are determined. A lot of kids come in and it is certainly not their first choice to do some math, but I see a big difference in the ones who are determined to do better and willing to learn something new.
Q4: ๐ฅ If you could give parents one piece of advice before bringing their child to Mathnasium, what would it be?
A: I think the biggest piece of advice I would give would be: be patient, it takes time to see improvement. Progress is not linear and there are so many other factors that can affect a kid's progress.
Q5: ๐ฏ What is your favorite teaching method or tool at Mathnasium?
A: My favorite thing is how the pages in the kid's learning plan clearly breaks down concepts into chewable bite-sized pieces. Math is hard to learn all at once, so when the topics get broken down into smaller/easier bits, more kids are able to understand and build upon that topic.
