Word Problem Wednesday: Math is Sweet!

Aug 2, 2017 | Burlingame

Hey math lovers, we have a sweet treat for you this week! Combining fractions and decimals can sometimes get sticky, so take your time and chew over your work, then when you're ready, check below for the solution.

Are you ready? Let’s go!

Mila has ¾ of a pound of caramels. Nora has 0.2 pounds of caramels. How much do their caramels weigh altogether?

Don't rush, you have plenty of time.

Are you ready?

Here's the solution: One way to do this problem is to convert ¾ into a decimal in order to add it to the other decimal. Mila has ¾ = 0.75. Since 0.75 + 0.2 = 0.95, Nora and Mila have 0.95 pounds of caramels altogether.
