Word Problem Wednesday: The Art And Craft Of Great Math Skills

Oct 24, 2018 | Burlingame

We love arts and crafts! There’s nothing so satisfying as making something special with your own two hands. And quite often, arts and crafts require great math skills. This week’s word problem challenge brings these things together and gives students the opportunity to practice their elementary school A plus math skills such as addition, subtraction, logic, and patterns.

Gather your wits and your skills, and see if you can help Magnus figure out how long it will take him to carve 20 wooden ducks. Be sure to come back tomorrow to check your solution against ours.

Question: On Monday, Magnus carves his very first wooden duck. On Tuesday, he practices by carving 3 more wooden ducks. The next day, he carves 5 more ducks. The day after that, he carves 7 more, and so on. If the pattern continues, on what day of the week will Magnus carve his 20th wooden duck?
