At Mathnasium of Carol Stream, we understand that more advanced math subjects can be difficult for students to grasp in the traditional learning environment. Subjects like Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, and AP Statistics, can all lead children to question their skills and become easily frustrated with homework. To master these subjects, students often do better in an environment where their individual abilities are assessed and catered to with personalized math tutoring programs. This is exactly what you will find at Mathnasium of Carol Stream.

Students are able to feel confident in their ability to tackle new math subjects when they have the right support and concepts are explained in a graspable way. Here at our Carol Stream learning center, our lead instructor Dan Wilson specializes in the complex subjects of Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, and AP Statistics.

Dan first realized he had a gift for explaining complicated math topics and a desire to work with students his senior year of high school. He was challenged in his honors level pre-calculus class, but was inspired by his teacher’s wish for students to genuinely learn. After starting college, Dan realized that children increasingly struggle with math subjects, but there wasn’t a good explanation for why. He decided to pursue the reasons that there are math learning gaps.

As both a college math professor and Mathnasium instructor, Dan likes to use math as a verb. “I math 14 hours a day,” he says and during that time he helps students of all ages bridge their learning gaps and find confidence in their ability to tackle various math subjects. Dan’s favorite math topic is geometry and he enjoys working with students who struggle in this area. There are several areas where he sees students find the most trouble with math, including adding and subtracting fractions in elementary school and introducing variables in middle and high school. Every time he works with a student, he enjoys the opportunity to present these subjects in a new light, enabling the student to build a solid foundation of skill and knowledge. Students and parents alike find Dan to be fun, engaging, and a true rock star when it comes to math instruction!

Dan loves Mathnasium because from his experience, he knows that traditional classroom teaching can often neglect children who either struggle with math or who need enrichment in math. By working with the Mathnasium Method™, he has found that his old math knowledge has been enhanced and he has learned new ways to do things and teach versus the drill-type memorization that takes place in most math classrooms.
