Miami Students: What's to Know about the ACT Changes for Fall 2020

Sep 3, 2020 | Dadeland

The SAT and ACT are standardized exams that can predict a student’s ability to succeed academically in college. Many colleges require SAT or ACT scores to be considered for admission. Starting in September 2020, the ACT will make three changes to the exam:

- sectional retesting,

- online testing option,

- the ability to superscore.

How do each of these changes impact you? “Sectional retesting” means you will be allowed to retake certain sections of the exam to increase your overall score. For instance, a student who struggles on the math portion can focus solely on studying and improving their math skills, rather than studying for every section all over again.

The next change will be the ability to take the exam online. Online testing comes with the benefit of taking the test in the comfort of your own home and - bonus! - the results will be ready in just two days.

Lastly, the ACT will compile the best score from each section across multiple tests and add them together for your overall composite score.

This is great news! These changes now help you target your specific needs in order to improve your score and have your hard work reflected in your highest composite score.
