Pi Day 2025: A Slice of Fun at Mathnasium of Downers Grove!

What’s round, infinite, and celebrated with pie? Pi Day, of course! On March 14, 2025, Mathnasium of Downers Grove turned our center into a math-lover’s paradise for our annual Pi Day Celebration. Families from Downers Grove, Woodridge, Lisle, and beyond joined us for an afternoon packed with games, learning, and—yes—delicious pizza pie. Here’s a recap of the pi-fectly awesome day!

A Record-Breaking Start
The event kicked off at 11:00 AM with our Pi Memorization Challenge. Kids lined up to recite as many digits of π (3.14159...) as they could muster. This year’s champ, 6th-grader Damian, blew us away with 16 digits—beating last year’s record by two! They took home a gift card and serious bragging rights. “I practiced all week,” Damian grinned, “and Mr. Modi’s tips helped me stay calm!”

Circles, Crafts, and Competition
Next, our Circle Craft Station was a hit. Kids used compasses to create pi-inspired masterpieces—think colorful circle chains and π symbol collages. Meanwhile, our “Race to 3.14” card game had students racing to build equations that landed on—you guessed it—3.14. The energy was electric as parents cheered and siblings teamed up for pi-themed puzzles.

Pie for Everyone!
No Pi Day is complete without pie, and we didn’t disappoint. Thanks to “Papa John", we served up free slices pizza “pi.” It was a tasty reminder that math connects us all.

Why We Love Pi Day
Pi Day started in 1988, but at Mathnasium of Downers Grove, we’ve made it our own since 2012. It’s more than a number—it’s a chance to show kids that math is fun, practical, and worth celebrating. Who all joined us, we hope they felt the joy of discovery.
