As mathematicians, March is one of our most favorite times of the year. It's when we celebrate the beloved mathematical constant, pi.
Why do we make such a big deal out of pi? Because pi is a big deal. This irrational number that begins with 3.14 and goes on forever helps us understand so much about our universe. We first learn about pi when measuring circles, but pi is also used to talk to satellites, to measure how fast and powerful a computer is, and even to study the structure of an eye. Pi is used every day to make calculations in physics, engineering, modern construction, space exploration, and so much more. Pi is all around us, and it helps the world go ‘round (and ‘round).
Here are some ways w will be celebrating Pi Day at our center.
1. March 14 (3/14) is a good excuse to eat some fruit-filled pastry and even “pizza pie”. We will get fruit-pie from our local cub-food and serve to our students for the whole week.
2. Pi-Day Word Search Activity - We will our kids with a Pi-Day Word Search Activity. They have to find all the circular objects. Whoever can findthe most amount of words will win a prize. Click on the link below to download the document so that your kid can do it at home.
