When meeting a new student for the first time, most of them have a strong idea of what areas of math class are generally easy and which can be the most challenging for them. For enrichment students, math isn't challenging them enough and they are seeking a challenge outside of the classroom to learn more and get ahead. Some of the most common areas of difficulty for families can be homework time, taking math tests or quizzes, making silly errors, difficulty retaining material, or a sense of not understanding which frequently leads to decreased confidence and motivation.
Some might question why Mathnasium conducts an initial assessment if our students and their families have already pinpointed their areas of strength and areas of weakness.
While the solution may appear as simple as providing homework help, time to spend studying for any upcoming tests or quizzes, or clarifying concepts that are taught in school; when a student is falling behind, this is often a result of a deeper issue and a more structured and personalized solution is necessary. Mathnasium does support with homework, tests, quizzes, and the current school concepts but we specialize in customizing each students individualized learning plan. We are able to individualize each students Mathnasium material because of the valuable results and information that is derived from the assessment.
Mathnasium program customization allows us to tailor to each student's goals and personal needs, when we are not working on homework or school work. Individualized curriculum and tutoring is available for both in-person instruction at our center and through our live and virtual platform, Mathnasium @Home.
