The main differences between the SAT and ACT math sections are in the range of topics covered and the structure of the questions, which influences how students approach each test.
Math Topics: The SAT focuses heavily on algebra and data analysis, while the ACT includes a wider variety of topics, with more emphasis on geometry and trigonometry.
Question Format: SAT questions often involve word problems and multi-step reasoning, while ACT questions are typically more straightforward.
Scoring System: SAT math scores are reported on a scale of 200–800, whereas ACT math scores range from 1–36.
Timing: The SAT allows about 1.5 minutes per question, compared to approximately 1 minute per question on the ACT.
