6 Tips to Help Your Middle Schooler Grasp Probability and Statistics
Mathnasium tutors explain why probability and statistics trip up middle schoolers and share practical tips for supporting these skills at home.

Summer is the Perfect Time to Catch Up, Keep Up, and Get Ahead in Math!
With classroom work coming to an end comes the opportunity for your student to focus their energy and attention on filling in foundational gaps and learning new skills to make next school year easier.
Catch Up
Every student begins their time at Mathnasium we an assessment to pinpoint exactly where they are at in math. If your student could benefit from backtracking to skills from an earlier grade-level to fill in some foundational gaps, summer is the perfect time to do so! Our curriculum is designed to break habits like finger counting, teach skills like multiplication facts, and prepare kids for future classes like algebra in a way that makes sense to kids!
Keep Up
A Johns Hopkins study reveals that most kids lose 2-3 months of critical thinking skills over the summer. While this Summer Learning Loss has been shown to affect all areas, math skills are the hardest hit. Students typically don’t get the repetition needed to really master and retain the skills being covered in class. So, any break from math will degrade their learning progress.
Get Ahead
While many kids are looking to catch up over the summer, there are also those advanced students who are wanting to push forward and get ahead. With over 95% of the highest paying jobs straight out of college being in STEM fields, competition for college entry and scholarships is more competitive than it has ever been. While these four STEM fields are very different, they all derive their basic foundations from Math.
So, as school lets out for the Summer, should I give my kids a break?
This is the #1 question parents ask every spring.
If you want to keep them engaged over the summer while still leaving plenty of time for camps, beach, and vacation time, we offer session-based packages that allow your student to come in for 16 or 21 1-hour sessions with drop-in flexibility.
