Percentages are important for understanding probabilities and statistics. How likely is a 60% chance of rain? Can I afford it with a 15% discount? How much more would I make with a 5% raise? A strong grasp on percentages will prepare a student for future math topics like the relationship between wholes and parts, and real-world experiences with taxes, discounts, and risk evaluation.
