Mathnasium of Mclean's personalized algebra tutoring programs are designed to support students at every stage of their math journey.
Students build algebraic reasoning by mastering integers, fractions, order of operations, and introductory variables through personalized instruction that bridges concrete arithmetic and abstract thinking.
We help students tackle multi-step equations, linear functions, graphing, and word problems with proven techniques that transform this pivotal course into a confident foundation for their future math journey.
Our tutors provide targeted support for fast-paced topics—factoring polynomials, quadratics, exponentials, and logarithms—developing the advanced problem-solving skills necessary for Precalculus and college-prep courses.
At Mathnasium of McLean, our specially trained math tutors support students across all stages of algebra learning. From Prealgebra through Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, we help students work through topics such as equations, functions, graphing, and polynomials with clarity and purpose.
Instruction takes place in a caring and fun group environment, where tutors focus on teaching algebra in a way that feels logical and approachable. By using clear explanations and meeting students at their current level, we help them gain confidence as their understanding grows.
We teach using the Mathnasium Method™, our proprietary teaching approach that helps students truly understand how algebra works, not just memorize steps. Our approach emphasizes reasoning, problem-solving, and building connections between concepts.
Tutors use proven interactive techniques alongside personalized learning plans, allowing instruction to reflect how each student learns best. This helps students apply algebra more effectively in class and feel more comfortable using it beyond the classroom.
The enrollment process begins with a diagnostic assessment that gives us insight into their current skills, learning gaps, and goals. Using this information, we design a personalized learning plan that provides focused, step-by-step support.
As students progress, tutors follow the plan closely and adjust instruction in real time. Concepts are reinforced, new material is introduced gradually, and students build a deeper understanding of the algebra concepts they’re working with, along with the confidence to use them independently.

Specially Trained and Caring Team
Malia Sarver
Center Director
Malia graduated from James Madison University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. While at JMU, she participated in Math Connection Theatre, a program dedicated to presenting math concepts in creative and engaging ways for students of all ages. Mathnasium has given her the perfect opportunity to continue making math fun and accessible.
Outside of the center, Malia is passionate about the arts and hopes to create a comic book one day. She also enjoys staying active through rock climbing and playing soccer, and she brings that same energy and enthusiasm to her work with students.
Matt Fitzgerald
Area Manager
Matt earned an Associate Degree in Computer Science from Northern Virginia Community College. Drawn to Mathnasium by his love for math and desire to make a meaningful difference in students’ lives, Matt is passionate about helping kids gain confidence in their abilities.
As someone who struggled with math in middle school, Matt understands firsthand the impact that positive guidance can have. He now strives to be that supportive figure for his students. Outside of work, Matt enjoys video games, puzzle-solving, and exploring the strategic layers of game theory.
Maggie Stanley
Assistant Center Director
Maggie graduated with an advanced diploma from South Lakes High School and went on to attend the University of Mary Washington, where she majored in linguistics and minored in math. During college, she worked as a private math and Spanish tutor and spent several years nannying, experiences that strengthened her love for teaching and working with children. Mathnasium is a great fit for Maggie because it brings together two of her favorite things: math and helping others, while allowing her to connect with both students and families. Outside of the center, Maggie enjoys playing video games, reading, and dancing, a passion she has pursued for five years and even taught in the past.
Ben Bramsen
Senior Regional Director
Ben began his career in education by volunteering with marine animals—especially walruses—at the Indianapolis Zoo. That experience ignited his interest in teaching and environmental awareness, eventually leading him to a career where he could directly impact students' growth and development.
At Mathnasium, Ben values the opportunity to witness students' progress every day. His approach blends education with curiosity and fun. In his free time, Ben enjoys exploring nature, traveling to new places, and playing guitar—even if he jokingly claims he’s still learning.
Jeff McCabe
President
Jeff holds an Economics degree from James Madison University and a Master’s in Education from George Mason University. After ten years teaching math at both the high school and college level, Jeff transitioned into leadership roles in the restaurant industry before returning to his true passion—math education—through Mathnasium.
Now, as President, Jeff leads with a commitment to student success and organizational excellence. When he’s not working to “Change Lives Through Math,” Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife of 28 years, their two dogs, and visiting their three adult children.
