Recall that 10% means 10 for each 100, 10 out of 100, or ten one-hundredths.
We can divide 1 by 10 to convert 10% to a decimal. 10% is equal to 0.1. Notice that dividing by ten moves the decimal point one place to the left.
To find 10% of 30, multiply the number in question by the decimal 0.1 (10%). Or, instead, use this trick: when we take 10% of a number, we move the decimal place one spot to the left in the original number.
10% of 30 = 3
