Is your child looking for a challenge beyond the classroom? While many students play soccer or hockey to build teamwork and resilience, math competitions offer the same exhilarating "varsity sport" experience for the mind.
At Mathnasium, we see math competitions as more than just tests—they are opportunities to build confidence, develop critical logical reasoning skills, and foster a lifelong love for problem-solving. Whether your student is a kindergartner or a high schooler, Minneapolis and the surrounding suburbs offer a wealth of opportunities to compete.
Here is a guide to the upcoming competition season and how Mathnasium can help your student prepare.

How Mathnasium Prepares Your Child to Compete
Success in these competitions isn't about memorizing formulas; it's about number sense and critical thinking—the very core of the Mathnasium Method™.
Here is how our curriculum gives students the competitive edge:
1. Developing "Math Muscle"
Just like an athlete trains at the gym, students need consistent practice to handle difficult problems. We offer "Math Gym" style workouts that expose students to non-routine questions they won't typically see in their school textbooks.
2. Customized Learning Plans
Whether your child needs to strengthen their foundation in fractions or advance into complex algebra, we tailor a learning plan to their specific needs. This ensures they have the toolbox required to tackle competition-level problems.
3. Specific Competition Prep
For upcoming events like Math Kangaroo, we offer targeted resources. We can help students tackle past competition problems, breaking them down to understand the "why" behind the solution, not just the "how."
