Beating the Summer Slide with Mathnasium@Home

Apr 15, 2020 | Mira Mesa & Scripps Ranch

Transitioning to distance learning has left many families feeling like summer break came early and has led some students feeling their motivation decrease towards school. Some students feel that online classes can be noninteractive or dull, and this feeling is often increased in students that were previously struggling or behind prior to the transition to online classes.

This transition has impacted the consistet learning students were receiving and has therefore impacted their academic skills and foundation. Combine this impact in learning with the summer slide and some students will experience more learning loss than usual when school resumes again in the fall.

In the new school year, students will be expected to build their math skills and foundation based upon what they should have learned from the previous year. For the students who are struggling with this transition to online classes and are struggling to feel engaged, they can fall further behind in their academics and can struggle with low confidence as a result.

Luckily, Mathnasium has introduced a way for students to gain the Mathnasium experience and maintain a strong foundation from the comfort of home. Mathnasium @home introduces an interactive, virtual experience with the instructors that already know our students and are familiar with their learning patterns. Students receive the same one-on-one instruction as in-center support, but done from the safety and comfort from home via video conferencing.

Our @home students have been enjoying practicing their skills, staying engaged, challenging themselves, catching up on gaps, getting ahead for next school year, and even working on homework that is being assigned by their teachers!
