Schools and teachers are asked to do so much, and for so many kids, this additional targeted support can make a big difference in helping individual students close specific gaps.
Teachers and schools are doing everything they can to empower students to master those skills. Given the learning we lost during the pandemic though, it is often not possible with the time and other resources they have. Students are working hard, so are their parents and so are educators. For any given topic, students may have and/or need only some of those 3 types. When we have that frame, we may be able to help them more effectively in the learning they do need!
On the bright side (and there is a bright side!), data suggests students are rebounding academically from the impact of the pandemic. Some effective ways to help them do so include “…increasing instructional time, ranging from more class time, intensive tutoring, or high-quality summer programming….”
We KNOW kids can do math – when they’re ready for it and when it’s taught in a way they understand. They DO belong in the math world and we want to help them feel that way.
