Today you’ll get a glimpse into the happenings of your local center as we follow students through their first experience at Mathnasium of South Barrington.

Q: What is the first thing a brand new student does at your center?

A: Students get a "binder tour" and learn where the seasonal Bingo Game is and how to use each section of their binder! They also receive their FREE Mathnasium T-shirt!

Q: What is the comprehensive assessment? How long does it take to finish?

A: The comprehensive assessment is critical in determining which skills a student has mastered and which skills they need to strengthen. Our assessment can take anywhere from 60-90 minutes. The middle school and high school math topics require more steps and can be more time consuming, most elementary students can finish in one hour.

The assessment results directly relate to the customized Learning Plan and help us pinpoint the areas we can work on with each student to help them achieve mastery and long-term success in math!

Q: How often should I bring my student to Mathnasium of South Barrington?

A: We recommend students attend ten one-hour sessions per month. Consistency is so beneficial to learning and retaining new skills! Scheduling is flexible depending on availability and parents have control when it comes to working around their busy family life!

Q: Who are the people teaching my child?

A: All of our instructors were hired based on their experience and after passing a math placement test. At our center we currently have two Lead Instructors. Mr. Jordan has a Bachelor's Degree and works well with students at all levels of math. Mr. Christian is currently in high school and has been with our center for over a year. He is also able to teach most levels of math. Lead Instructors help with assessments and some administrative responsibilities as needed.

We also have a strong team of Instructors ready to work with your children. Mr. Aidan, Mr. Danny, Ms. Alisha, and Ms. Kelly are high school students who have demonstrated strong math skills and have completed extensive Mathnasium Method training on the best methods to teach your children.

Q: When can I bring my child into Mathnasium of South Barrington?

A: We offer sessions 5 days a week. We are open Monday -Thursday from 3pm - 7pm and Saturday from 9am - 1pm. Parents can schedule student session up to 4 weeks at a time, and can call the center for any rescheduling needs. Students are not locked into a specific day or time, their session times are completely flexible, just make sure to use all 10 sessions each month as they do not carry over to the next month.

Q: How do you motivate your students at Mathnasium of South Barrington?

A: We LOVE to celebrate student success!! For each "A" earned on a school math test students receive a Nerds Rope. Students earn stars on Rewards Cards for our incentive program. Cards can be redeemed for prizes in the Rewards Cabinet and student suggestions are highly regarded when I order prizes. Students can earn stars for good behavior, completing progress checks, and completing next-level assessments. We also have a Rewards Wheel where students spin at the end of their session to get extra stars. AND have you seen our fun calendar?? Students can earn extra stars by participating in our center events. We also celebrate birthdays and have a student of the month each month!
