At Mathnasium, we believe that behind every thriving student is a dedicated teacher who helped them get there. As we gear up to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week (the first full week in May), we want to take a moment to say thank you to the amazing educators who show up every day with patience, creativity, and a passion for helping students grow.
The National Education Association (NEA) describes National Teacher Day, held on the Tuesday of Teacher Appreciation Week, as "a day of honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives." And we couldn’t agree more! Whether it's helping students discover a love for math or guiding them through challenging lessons, teachers play a key role in shaping not just academic skills, but lifelong confidence.
Here at Mathnasium, we work closely with classroom teachers throughout the year. By collaborating with them and keeping communication open, we’re able to support your student’s progress, address any learning gaps, and ensure that their math education is cohesive and effective.
We’ve seen firsthand how teachers go above and beyond—especially in recent years—adapting to new challenges, creating engaging learning environments, and putting their students first. That’s why we’re committed to honoring their hard work and dedication in a meaningful way this Teacher Appreciation Week.
We’ve got some fun and heartfelt activities planned at our center:
💌 Decorate a Teacher Appreciation Card
Students visiting the center this week can create custom cards for their teachers to say “thank you” in their own unique way! Want to do one at home? You can also download a printable card here and deliver it to your teacher during Teacher Appreciation Week!
♥️ Sharing Our Stories
We asked our team to share stories about the teachers who inspired them growing up. Here are a few of our favorites:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My favorite math teacher was named Mr. Trigg. Ironically, he taught Honors Calculus. I had him my senior year in high school and he was the best. I stayed after school most days to get help from him and he was so patient with me. I did end up passing with a B, but it was all due to him. At the end of the school year, I took him a peony from my yard. He retired the same year, but I continued to visit him at his home and take peonies every May for 25 years. He loved that I ended up at Mathnasium and said he never doubted me.
-Becki, Mathnasium of Leawood
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My most impactful teacher was Mrs. Chapman, who taught 3rd grade at Governor Bent Elementary School. I remember this year as having numerous hands-on experiences from fieldtrips to local monuments to making a loom and dyeing our own yarn to create a small woven piece.
-Donna, Mathnasium of North Blue Valley
We hope you’ll join us this week in celebrating the incredible work teachers do every single day. Whether it’s a note, a nomination, or a kind word in passing, every bit of appreciation makes a difference.
To all the teachers out there—from your student’s classroom to your own childhood memories—thank you. You’re helping build a brighter future, one student at a time.
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
