Q1: ๐ก What is the most rewarding part of working with Mathnasium students?
A: The most rewarding part of working with Mathnasium students is helping them overcome their math fears and seeing their confidence soar! It is so fun to see students find joy in math!
Q2: ๐ What is one math tip or trick you often share with students?
A: Break down numbers in harder problems into simpler (and more manageable) numbers! When first glancing at a problem with more difficult numbers, it is easy to get flustered. However, by breaking down numbers (like making 78 into 70 + 8) it is easy to simplify the problem's steps and turns a hard problem into something much easier!
Q3: ๐ What qualities do you see in students who make the most progress at Mathnasium?
A: There are a lot of qualities in students that succeed! These students make the most of their time here by staying focused on their work during their sessions, and asking questions often. They're not afraid to ask for help when they need it, and they make sure to continue working on their math skills in class and at home.
Q4: ๐ฅ If you could give parents one piece of advice before bringing their child to Mathnasium, what would it be?
A: Be patient with the learning process. Learning math and gaining confidence in your own math skills takes time. The students who practice most consistently tend to see progress the fastest.
Q5: ๐ฏ What is your favorite teaching method or tool at Mathnasium?
A: I think the whiteboard is a really powerful tool. Often times, it can help with restating the problem into a simpler one, or just getting the concepts down clearly. Also, manipulatives like coins, fraction pieces, or place value blocks are great for helping students grasp new concepts!
