Last week at our Mathnasium of Sunset summer camp, we hosted one of the most exciting and empowering experiences of the season: Financial Literacy Week โ and it was a hit! ๐
Designed to help students understand money in a fun, hands-on way, the week gave kids the tools to think like savvy savers and smart spenders.
๐ง What Did Students Learn?
Our campers learned real-life lessons that go way beyond the classroom:
๐ต Handling actual play money โ Kids earned Mathnasium Dollars through challenges and participation.
๐ Paying rent and bills โ Each child was "charged" daily for pretend housing, food, and electricity.
๐๏ธ Wants vs. Needs โ We had great conversations about what we truly need to live vs. what we want to buy "just because."
๐ก Saving money wisely โ Campers were challenged to budget their earnings and spend thoughtfully at the end-of-week Mathnasium Market.

At the end of the week, kids got to spend their savings on fun items and treats in our Mathnasium Market.
From fidget toys to snacks and school supplies, students were thrilled to see how smart saving leads to rewarding outcomes!
They walked away with:
Greater math fluency
Real-world financial concepts
A sense of independence and confidence
We even heard one student say, โI didnโt buy chips today so I could afford a puzzle on Friday โ just like my mom!โ ๐
