Using math to study paintings

Oct 26, 2020 | Sunset District San Francisco

“Most studies of art history have been qualitatively based, which has led to interpretive results. To overcome such bias, the researchers with this new effort looked to mathematics to see if it might be useful in uncovering features of paintings that have been overlooked by human scholars.”

A fantastic article on the intersection of arts, mathematics, and history. The push towards moving STEM to STEAM (A for the arts) and recognizing the importance of an integrated education continues to reveal interesting results. At Mathnasium of the Sunset, we are preparing students to think about Math in a critical and creative way. As we find increasingly more ways to integrate our studies, it is our hope our students will be able to see the beauty of mathematics in their daily lives as well!
