How much fun was math this year?

It feels like we are through the worst of the COVID pandemic.  One thing that stands out for us academically that directly relates to COVID health is the existence of people with ‘long haul’ symptoms. The is exactly what we are seeing with math students.  Without extra help and treatment, students will be suffering in math for the rest of their lives potentially.

Some students did very well over the past 2 years, some did very poorly, and most somewhere in the middle.  If a student didn’t fit into the ‘very well’ category, then they have missed some valuable knowledge that may negatively affect them in the future.

How many people choose careers that avoid math, even if it relates to something they love?  How many people avoid anything with fractions?  How many people can’t calculate the tip on a restaurant bill?

Your student does not need to become one of these people.  With some help, they can gain the confidence and the skills they need in math to enjoy it.  Summer is a great time to get caught up and maybe even get ahead for next year.

STEM careers can be available to anyone who is willing and able to put in the time and effort required.  We just need to focus it on the right materials with the right instruction.
