High School Integrated Math

Dec 13, 2019 | Mira Mesa & Scripps Ranch

Integrated math is used to describe the style of mathematics education that integrates several branches of math education. Around 2013, majority of high schools began moving toward common core. Each math course incorporates topics from Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Statistics and Analysis.

While this may appear intimidating for parents and students, the integrated math approach is not limited or subject to high school; it's applied early on in elementary school. Third grade students not only learn multiplication but they also study geometric concepts such as axes of symmetry and are given an introduction to fractions within the same curriculum!

The overall goal of integrated math is for students to steer away from solely relying on arithmetic and computation, as previous generations of students have. Integrated math provides students with a "gallery" experience, to see and learn a wide range of concepts, all while seeing how they are all inter-related.

Integrated math concepts can be challenging for students who have not mastered or don't fully understand the material. The integrated I-III sequence also builds upon itself and what students are expected to have learned and retained from the previous class(es). Lacking a strong understanding prevents from seeing relationships and making connections between mathematical and algebraic concepts, which is critical to a student's success.

Mathnasium is very familiar with common core and integrated math learning; we were common core before common core was around! We tutor math with specialized and individualized education, curriculum, and instruction. Mathnasium supports students of all ages and needs; whether they are behind and are looking to catch up, or wanting to stay caught up/get ahead and maintain their enrichment and more rigor in their learning.

With finals just a few weeks away, finish your Integrated class strong with the help of Mathnasium of Mira Mesa / Scripps Ranch.  You have already found our math tutoring website, next step is to give us a call to find out more about how we can meet your student's unique needs!
