Angela de la Rosa, Center Director

Angela is originally from England, where she earned her degree in Physics with Medical Applications from the University of London.  She is also an ACCA (UK) certified accountant.  She moved to the United States in 1995 after working overseas for three years in Asia.  She worked for 17 years in the finance industry before embarking on a new journey with Mathnasium to fulfill her desire to give back to the community and build strong math students in Montclair's schools.

Center DirectorJohn de la Rosa, Center Director

John spent 10 years as a Bell Labs scientist in the field of telecommunications and photonics. He earned his bachelor degree in EE from Stevens Institute of Technology, and also holds MS Degrees in Optics and EE from the University of Rochester and Columbia University, respectively. He left research to pursue a legal career, obtaining his JD from Rutgers Law School. For more than 6 years he worked in New York as an IP attorney. John is currently a solo practitioner where his skills in math, science, and law are constantly being challenged. John's passion for teaching math developed from working with his children, as well as from volunteering at their elementary schools. John is a member of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New Jersey.

Rohan Syed, Instructor

Currently, Rohan is a math teacher at Immaculate Conception High School and received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at The New York Institute of Technology. He also has an Associate degree in Engineering from Ocean County College, where he was entrusted with the position of President of the Math Club in his senior year. During that time, Rohan competed in AMATYC contests, securing top-5 positions all 4 times. Formally, Rohan has been tutoring for more than 5 years, both undergraduates as well as high school students - from Algebra I to Multivariable Calculus, and Differential Equations. He has also tutored numerous students taking Statistics, Probability, Linear Algebra and Physics (Algebra and Calculus-based). Rohan is grateful for working at Mathnasium because it has given him the chance to also work with elementary and middle school students.  He loves Movies, Poetry and Music. His favorite movie is Miyazaki's Spirited Away, and his favorite poets are Robert Frost, Rumi, and Rose Hartwick Thorpe. Interesting Fact: Rohan is also learning to play the Bassoon!

Olivera, Tiffany's profile photoTiffany Olivera, Instructor

Tiffany is a senior at New Jersey Institute of Technology, pursuing two Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Chemistry with a minor in Applied Mathematics. She has completed upper level math courses, like Partial Differential Equations, Applied Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra, and Mathematical Biology. She wants to be a research scientist when she grows up, and has been working with a professor in their research lab focused on computational chemistry to achieve that goal. Tiffany is currently working on atomistically viewing gaseous molecules cycling over crystal lattice and defected salt formations related to polar snowpacks, a natural phenomena. She is also on the executive board of the NJIT American Chemical Society chapter, and is the Chemistry representative on the NJIT Student Senate. After graduating, she is looking to continue her education at NJIT by pursuing a Master's in Chemistry and strengthening her research skills. Knowing how important math is in research and in everyday life, she is happy to impart her knowledge onto others. In her free time, Tiffany enjoys playing her alto saxophone, swimming, and going on adventures with her two dogs.

Tina DeLuna, Instructor

Tina is a current student at Montclair State University majoring in Mathematics and is enrolled in the K-12 Teacher Education Program. She has taken a variety of math courses such as Calculus I-III, Physics I-II, Intro to Advanced Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Probability, and Statistics. She is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Golden Key International Honour Society. Tina’s passion for math inspires her to want others to understand and even enjoy the concepts. Her goal is to teach high school math and would like to spread the idea “with math, all things are possible.” In her spare time she likes to cook, ice skate, hang out with friends and watch A LOT of Netflix.

Rachel Lopez, Instructor

Rachel is currently a student at Montclair State University pursuing a Bachelor's of Science degree in Mathematics along with a minor in Computer Science. She has taken courses such as Calculus I-III, Probability, Linear Algebra, Advanced Calculus I, and much more. Since she loves math so much, she hopes to earn a PhD in Mathematics someday. What Rachel finds most rewarding while tutoring is when students become confident in a topic they were once struggling in. When she's not studying or tutoring, she's either hanging out with her friends, watching funny YouTube videos, or napping.

Victoria de la Rosa, Assistant Instructor

Vicki is currently a Freshman at the University of Pennsylvania and has enjoyed math all throughout her life.  She loves children and hopes to instill the same love of math she has to the children at the center.  When she isn't working on math problems, she is dancing with the school dance company, busy taking classes or studying for exams.  Vicki tutors seasonally when she is home during breaks from college.

Christopher de la Rosa, Assistant Instructor

Chris is a senior at Montclair High School, and like his sister has enjoyed math all throughout his life.  He is currently taking Linear Algebra at Montclair State University.  Besides enjoying math and science, Chris enjoys running and rock climbing - competing in both.
