Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

Beth Rand, Owner and Center Director

Hello!  My name is Beth Rand.  Welcome!  I am so fortunate and honored to be the new owner of our Mathnasium!  I’m also pleased to be working for a company that was named #1 Tutoring franchise by Franchise Business Review, as well as #1 Math-Only Tutoring franchise by Entrepreneur Magazine, as this reflects the successful program we offer here at Mathnasium.

My background has been primarily in educational tech theatre.  As I always say, “Tech Theatre is STEM – behind the scenes”!  I have designed and taught stage lighting in schools for over 30 years, and I was also a High School Theatre Manager for 7 of those years.  I have always been a ‘math person’ and I also taught 6th grade math, as well as published a book called “Adults can do Algebra” – which they can!  And so can kids do math, they just need to be taught it in way that makes sense to them, which, as I myself discovered, is what the Mathnasium Method does so successfully.

Originally from Chester, England, with life detours to Perth (Western Australia), Palo Alto and Irvine (CA), and most recently the Seattle (WA) area, I moved to the Denver area in 2017.  I love the extremes of the sunny and snowy weather!  I have actually been known to leave the theatre and classroom on occasion, and when not lurking around inside a room full of STEM, I enjoy camping, rock climbing, hiking, X-C skiing, ice dancing, and traveling with my family.

My Bachelor’s of Arts is in Stage Lighting and my Masters of Science is in Entertainment Business (like an MBA for the entertainment industry). I hold teaching endorsements in K-8, Tech Theatre (7 -12), and Middle Level Math/Science (K-9).

Sandra Brändli, Assistant Center Director

Hello, my name is Sandra Brandli. I was born and raised near Zurich, Switzerland. After finishing business vocational school, I spent nine months at the American Language Academy (USC) in Pueblo, Colorado, and later moved to the Denver area permanently. Three years ago, I decided to go back to school and recently graduated from Front Range Community College in Westminster with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in their Paralegal program. It was there that I developed a new interest and like in Math! I love working with kids and am looking forward to sharing my skills. When I am not working, I love to spend time with my family and friends, and especially enjoy riding our horse.

InstructorJim Keefe, Lead Instructor

I am Jim Keefe.  I have recently retired after teaching all levels of Mathematics (middle school up to and including Calculus) for the past 33 years.  I love working with kids and helping them succeed through Math.  Math allows thinking to happen!  It is exciting to see students when they get that “ah-ha” moment and the light comes on for them!  I have worked with many age groups over the years ranging from middle school to high school, to adults.  I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Education, certified in Secondary Math, and a Master’s Degree with an emphasis in Adult Education, Professional Development.  I am excited about this opportunity to continue working with students and helping them succeed in Math!

Zen Han Chia, Instructor

My name is Zen, and I graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2018 with a degree in Astrophysics and a Minor is Computer Science. During my time in college, I took up a Learning Assistant position and really enjoyed teaching Calculus 1 and 2 since I had a strong grasp and love for math. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to go down this career path and see where it takes me.

I believe that a strong grasp of math will help a person both in his personal life and in his career, as this is a useful skill to have for doing basic things like counting change to tougher activities like investing. In my free time I like to spend time with friends and playing video games. I am currently in Grad School pursuing a phD in Computer Science.

Winfield "Penrose" Rose, Instructor

Math has always been the very core of my academic studies.  I won math awards in High School and was on the Dean’s List for a while in college. Having once been an Electrical Engineering student, I am now pursuing an online math teaching degree.  I recently completed all classes up to and including Calculus III and I successfully passed the Praxis II – Math Content exam toward a teaching certificate.

Tutoring is keeping my math skills sharp and I enjoy helping those at all levels and abilities.  I have tutored College-level Calculus, Algebra and Statistics, as well as elementary-level basic math.

While continuing my own studies in math and physics I intend to continue sharing what I’ve learned and hopefully bring inspiration to those who may not realize how magical and fun math can be!

My other passion is music, having been a singer/songwriter/performer for many years.  I believe math and music are interrelated on many levels.

Kara Beharry, Instructor

My name is Kara and I have an engineering and physics academic background. I am proud to call myself a Wisconsin Badger and a Florida Gator. I am originally from the Caribbean and this is where my math tutoring career started, immediately after high-school. I really do enjoy tutoring and have experience teaching students age-ranging from middle school to career-changing adults. I am very passionate about
helping students succeed in math and I am an advocate of dispelling any barriers and mysteries surrounding math problem-solving. During my free time, I do enjoy many outdoor activities, but I am happiest either reading a really good novel or baking up tasty creations for friends and co-workers. I am thrilled to be part of the team and I look forward to my day-to-day interactions with students and helping them achieve success in math.

Jason Pelliccione, Instructor

My name is Jason and I’m an engineer that has recently graduated from Missouri S&T with a degree in Ceramic Engineering.

Math always appealed to me as it was a very effective way to model and analyze, whether you are looking at production and sales forecasts in industry, musical note composition, or a strategy in a game. It may sometimes be frustrating to learn, but both the skill of computation and perseverance while learning it pays dividends later in life.

I’ve both tutored and have been tutored plenty of times through my education and would like to pay it forward by helping others achieve success in mathematics here at the center.

Outside of my career and tutoring, I’m keeping active, cooking, playing games, or working with my computer.
