Larry, Creator of the Mathnasium Method
Larry Martinek has spent his entire career finding a better way to teach math. From inner city public schools, to acclaimed magnet schools, to leading private and parochial schools, Larry has served as both a classroom teacher and as an educational consultant. He has designed curriculum, teaching strategies, and teaching materials to help students and teachers learn math more effectively. He has trained teachers in the art and science of boosting students' ability to “do” math, thereby increasing students' math scores and feeling of self-worth. Larry is the developer of Mathnasium’s educational program – one of the most comprehensive and innovative curriculas ever produced for teaching math.
The Mathnasium Method developed by Larry is implemented in our center by our trained instructors. Our instructors are not only passionate about math, they are also passionate about helping students understand, appreciate and excel in math.
Asif, Multi-Center Owner
Asif has been with Mathnasium since 2015 and owns three Mathnasium Learning Centers
Asif grew up in Southern California and pursued a finance career for many years. In 2015, Asif and his wife Amirah came upon a life-changing opportunity to take over the Mathnasium Learning Center in Granada Hills, CA. They saw first-hand the success of the Mathnasium Method and the dramatic impact "Number Sense" has on a student's understanding and appreciation of math. Through passion and commitment to the Mathnasium Method, enrollment grew quickly. In 2017, Asif and Amirah built upon their success in Granada Hills and took over ownership of two additional Mathnasium Learning Centers in Westlake Village (previously in Oak Park) and Thousand Oaks.
In 2018, Asif and Amirah became of one of the Top 50 Mathnasium Owners in the US. They are honored to have the opportunity to spread "Number Sense" one student at a time!
Sandra, Center Director
Sandra spent many years educating her own children as a homeschooling mother to a son and daughter now in college. She always excelled at math herself in school, and joined Mathnasium as an Instructor to build on those skills and her own education experience. At Mathnasium, she discovered a curriculum whose transformative impact she saw first hand and understood the value of customizing a learning plan for each child.
Sandra also brings many years of office experience to her current position as Center Director of Mathnasium of Thousand Oaks. Her other pursuits include volunteering as treasurer for a local MOMS Club chapter, and her daughter's American Heritage Girls troop. She loves being involved with children, and helping them to learn new skills. She especially enjoys helping students learn to love math!
Rachel, Asst Center Director
Rachel recently graduated from UC San Diego and is now pursuing a masters in counseling for higher education at Cal Lutheran. During her time at UCSD, Rachel was a classroom teaching assistant for middle school and high school students. She is excited to continue helping students succeed academically using the Mathnasium curriculum. In her free time, Rachel enjoys reading, hiking, and wake surfing.
Mayte Pacheco graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Mathematics and a minor in Education. While pursuing her degree, she volunteered at elementary and junior high school math classes. She enjoys and appreciates math and hopes to share her passion with others. In the future, she wants to become a math teacher and help students find joy when learning about math as well as motivate them to achieve their full potential.
Ronan is studying Engineering and Computer Science at Moorpark College. Ronan graduated from Thousand Oaks High School in 2018 and has enjoyed math from a very early age. He excelled in advanced math classes and often found himself helping his friends with math and science during school, which naturally led him to start tutoring in high school. He has always loved the feeling of things clicking into place, and finds the same fulfillment helping others to achieve that, “a-ha” moment. Beyond math, Ronan enjoys music, and has been participating in band both inside and outside of school since around age 5. His love of teaching extends to music also, as he enjoys volunteering to help middle school and high school music programs.
