Miss Denise, Owner
Denise is the owner of 4 Mathnasiums in the Raleigh region: Mathnasium of Cary, Mathnasium of Brier Creek, Mathnasium of Wakefield, and Mathnasium of Lead Mine. These award winning centers have been helping students across the greater Raleigh area develop the thinking skills and confidence they need to succeed in their math classes for over 7 years. Denise's passion for improving students' education is apparent: after spending 20 years at AT&T Bell Labs and Cisco systems, she embarked on a new journey with Mathnasium to fulfill her desire to give back to the community which helped her realize so much of her success. Under her directorship, each of her four Mathnasium locations have truly become community math learning centers.
Wesley graduated from Wake Forest University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics where he earned the Speas Award. In 2014 he earned his Master’s Degree in Physics from NC State University. He started working for Mathnasium soon after and loves tutoring math so much that he hopes to open his own Mathnasium some day. Wesley’s favorite part about the Mathnasium program is that it helps students to fully understand what they’re doing with the math they learn. In his free time, Wesley enjoys cooking, strategic board games, and playing video games with great storylines.
Mr. Julian, Lead Instructor
Julian graduated from Haverford College in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He’s a native of Raleigh and is back in his hometown to pass his knowledge on to the next generation! He looks forward to helping any student who comes his way reach their goals and grow as mathematicians. Outside of math, Julian’s other love is martial arts.
Miss Amanda, Lead Instructor
Amanda graduated from Muskingum University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and moved from Ohio to North Carolina in 2009. She has recently taught high school mathematics in Hertford County for five years, but currently teaches high school mathematics in Wake county, where she has taught for the past three years. Amanda has always loved math and working with students to improve their math skills.
Mr. Sweed, Instructor
Sweed has a BA in Economics from Columbia University and completed the Licensure Program in Middle Grades Mathematics from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2011. After more than 30 years with IBM, Sweed retired as an IT Professional. After retiring from IBM, he pursued his true passion which is teaching. He began his teaching career as a middle school mathematics teacher in Wake County and retired as a full-time middle school mathematics teacher in Durham County in 2017. An avid sports fan, Sweed’s favorite sports are college basketball and professional football. In his free time, Sweed enjoys spending time with his family and friends walking and riding his bicycle.
Mr. Bill, Instructor
Bill moved from Seattle to Wake Forest in 2013. He has math degrees from both Ohio Wesleyan University and Indiana University. He most recently worked for Weyerhaeuser and applied his math background to help improve enterprise business processes. He has worked for Mathnasium for over six years. His goal is to help students learn basic math and reasoning skills and to demonstrate how having such skills enable solving every day problems.
Miss Nicole, Instructor
Nicole graduated from the University of Richmond in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics at NC State University. Nicole has worked as a consultant for college peers and as a tutor for younger children. She loves working with word problems and helping students gather information from the problems they’re given. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys drawing, crocheting, and playing music on her baritone saxophone.
