Mathnasium found me in a rather unexpected way. As a previous business owner, manager, and high school math teacher (most recently at Carmel High School), I feel particularly led to this point and well-equipped to serve our community. I live here in Carmel with my wife and two sons, who have recently left an empty nest behind them. We could not be more grateful for this opportunity. Mathnasium’s vision, purpose, and methodology truly speaks to me and echoes of myself in the classroom. There is nothing else like it to help students who are struggling or already excelling in math.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE NUMBER? 3. It's a magic number, as any Schoolhouse Rock fanatic can tell you.
WHICH MATH WORD BEST DESCRIBES YOU? Sequence. It's an ... extreme personality trait.

Assistant Director
I became an aunt at nine years old, so I have been working with and mentoring children for a long time and have loved every minute of it. While I wait for Jim Butcher to finish The Dresden Files, I have just started reading Kevin Hearne's The Iron Druid Chronicles and am very excited and optimistic. The highlight of my week is watching Sven Goolie on Saturday night with my husband. My highest math level includes Non-Euclidean Geometry, Introduction to Algebraic Structures, Differential Equations. When I first started at Mathnasium, I learned so many alternative methods to solve math problems that just made sense, and I was constantly asking, "Why isn't math taught this way everywhere?!" Getting to share repeated "lightbulb moments" with kids over this approach unique to Mathnasium has kept me coming back, and now I couldn't imagine working anywhere else.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE NUMBER? 4. Days spent with my husband and our two boys--or, as we call them, Four Family Days--are the best!
WHICH MATH WORD BEST DESCRIBES YOU? Ceiling Function. No matter the input, I am always pushing it to the next level.

Assistant Director
Since I was young, I have always loved all things beautiful. While I was proficient in math, I first perceived its beauty when I studied Euclid’s elements in college. This inspired me to pursue teaching the subject for fifteen years. When I became an Instructor at Mathnasium and learned about their teaching methods, I was astonished at their ability to show young people the beautiful simplicity of math. It has been a delight to help Mathnasium students perceive that beauty and ultimately fall in love with math.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE NUMBER? All of the Fibonacci numbers! They are the foundation of the Golden Ratio, and its manifestation in nature is beautiful.
WHICH MATH WORD BEST DESCRIBES YOU? Infinite Series. I am always adding on to my love of knowledge.
Stan Hunnicutt
Assistant Director
I have worked in Chemistry for 25 years and have learned that Chemistry is mostly math. It’s not a coincidence that we write chemical “equations.” I have taught adults and children in some capacity throughout my career and found a real love of guiding students to their “Aha!” moment. There is nothing better than the look on the face of someone who finally understands the difficult concept they have been working on. I live in Carmel with my two daughters. In my spare time I love to play strategy and board games with my daughters and friends. It gives me a chance to keep practicing my logic and reasoning skills. I love the team-teaching approach at Mathnasium, because I get to interact with so many students and aid them on their math journeys.
What is your favorite number? 42. It’s the answer to life, the universe, and everything.
Which math word best describes you? Infinity. I love to always learn new things and not limit my thinking.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT MATHNASIUM? I enjoy all of the connections I am able to make with all fo the students and my coworkers.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE NUMBER? 7. I was born on the 7th of the month in 2007, and it has always been my lucky number!
WHICH MATH WORD BEST DESCRIBES YOU? Optimization. I like to stay optimistic and look on the bright side.

Understanding each student’s unique approach to math helps us adjust instruction to their learning style and pace and empower them to unlock their true potential.
At Mathnasium of Carmel, we do not follow a traditional curriculum. We use our proprietary approach called the Mathnasium Method™, which combines personalized learning plans with proven teaching techniques to develop solid foundations for math mastery.
Our approach builds on each student’s existing knowledge, addressing the gaps in their understanding and introducing new concepts gradually and in a logical sequence. We work with students to expand their mathematical thinking so they can build the skills and confidence to excel in the classroom and beyond.
Yes! We support students of all skill levels.
Students who are behind in math class receive personalized instruction and caring guidance to close knowledge gaps and rebuild confidence. Advanced learners benefit from enrichment programs that challenge their thinking and expand their math skills.
It starts with the assessment (see above), so we can confidently instruct knowing we're on solid ground with a student's prerequisite skills and foundations. Manipulatives, warm-up activities, games, and the curriculum itself all engage students in visual, verbal, and tactile ways. There's also a lot of fun and reward and incentive built into our program. Here in Carmel, our reward system is very robust and designed to appeal to all levels and ages of learners and to a variety of motivations. Our Instructors are supportive, encouraging, and friendly. They set daily goals with students and share their celebrations and excitement. You can see the enthusiasm our students have for the people and the program at Mathnasium of Carmel just by observing them as they enter and exit the front door!

Mathnasium works best when we can establish communication and partnerships with teachers. There IS more than one way to do any math problem, and the way that makes sense to THAT student is the way we want them to carry with them. Having an understanding of what's going on at school helps us to make connections between relevant foundations we're working on in their learning plan and alternative representations that students often see at school.
Yes. Mathnasium of Carmel helps students get ready for math on standardized tests such as ILEARN, the SAT®, and ACT®.
Our program combines targeted practice with problem-solving strategies, as well as confidence-building support, so students perform their best on test day and beyond.
