Monica Virgil
Center Director
Monica, an Atlanta native, brings over a decade of teaching experience to Mathnasium. After 12 years as a public school math and science teacher, she followed her dream of combining education and leadership by opening Montgomery’s first Mathnasium in 2012. She holds a BA in Middle Grades Science and Mathematics from Brenau University and an MA in Secondary Mathematics Education from Western Governors University.
She believes true learning happens when students can connect math to the world around them. Monica believes in celebrating academic success just as much as athletic achievement and inspires students through songs and hands-on learning.
Courtney
Assistant Center Director
Courtney is passionate about helping students discover confidence in math. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Auburn University, where she worked as a teaching assistant in Anatomy and Physiology and a Supplemental Instruction leader in Chemistry. Through these roles, she discovered her love for education and shifted her career path from pharmacy to teaching.
At Mathnasium, Courtney enjoys working with students of all ages and learning styles, tailoring each lesson to make math meaningful. She especially loves seeing the pride and excitement on a student’s face when a challenging concept finally clicks.
Dontavious
Lead Instructor
A proud LAMP High School graduate, Dontavious holds a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University and a PhD from Carnegie Mellon. He was the first high school student hired at Mathnasium of East Montgomery and has now returned as a Lead Instructor.
Throughout college, he held leadership positions with the National Society of Black Engineers, volunteering to mentor and tutor students from K–12 through college. Dontavious hopes to show every student that while math can be challenging, it’s also rewarding and full of possibility once you gain confidence and curiosity.
Elijah
Lead Instructor
Elijah is a senior at LAMP High School with plans to study screenwriting in college. Multitalented and creative, he speaks Spanish, enjoys beatboxing and juggling, and plays basketball, where he has served as a camp leader and mentor.
His favourite part of working at Mathnasium is the energy and enthusiasm of the students. Elijah loves how every day brings a new opportunity to share knowledge, encourage creativity, and make learning math fun and interactive for all.
Katie
Lead Instructor
Katie is a senior at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School and an accomplished track athlete who runs the 100m and 300m hurdles. She plans to attend Mississippi State University to study architecture and is fluent in French and Portuguese.
Outside of academics, Katie enjoys art and music, and she brings that same creativity to her teaching. She loves the warm, lively environment at Mathnasium and finds joy in helping students grow while sharing in their enthusiasm and positivity each day.

Sara, a recent LAMP graduate, will be attending AUM in the fall, majoring in kinesiology. She enjoys staying active and reading in her free time. Since she was young, her favorite subject in school has always been math and holds a passion for helping and interesting others in it. Sara’s favorite part about working at Mathnasium is getting the chance to make an impact on so many people’s lives.

Yes, Mathnasium of East Montgomery offers both in-center and online tutoring. All students receive live, face-to-face instruction from our caring tutors, no matter how they attend.
No, the experience is designed to be consistent across both formats.
Online students follow the same customized learning plans and work directly with the specially trained tutors they would meet at our East Montgomery center.
We can support students with any K–12 math class or topic, including Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus.
