Distance Learning Support Program for Students in Alameda County

Aug 28, 2020 | Alameda

Mathnasium of Alameda is pleased to share our new program option. Mathnasium of Alameda Presents:

Prime Study Space

  • Monday through Friday (5 days per week): 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Individual desk workspace for your student at our learning center
  • Access to internet and power
  • Month to month tuition membership fees; no long-term commitment required!
  • Limited availability. We will be capping it at 12 socially distanced students.
  • Opportunity to earn reward cards and shop in our reward cabinet.
  • Updated reports on progress or challenges

Each week, we will work with our families to map out your student’s individual schedule at their respective school.  Our team will then help to ensure they are logged in to the right class, engaged in teacher meetings, and staying on track with their daily work, along with providing updated reports on progress (or challenges).

Mathnasium of Alameda follows local, state and CDC guidelines for Prime Study Space and our in-center math instruction, including but not limited to:

  • Social distancing
  • Cleaning and disinfecting protocols
  • Masks required for all students and team members
  • Daily temperature checks and health screenings for Prime Study Space students and team members

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can sign up for Mathnasium of Alameda’s Prime Study Space?

Any student, age 6 and older, is eligible for Prime Study Space.  This includes, current Mathnasium of Alameda @Home online students and those who are not currently enrolled at Mathnasium of Alameda.

Will students be able to use Mathnasium of Alameda's computers?

No, students will need to bring their own laptop or tablet, with the appropriate apps or websites their respective school requires.  They will also need their own headphones or earbuds.

What if my child’s school times do not line up exactly with the 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. time frame?

There are multiple variations of school schedules throughout Alameda County.  There is no way we could create a program that accounts for all the different bell schedules students navigate.  This window allows for most students to attend for a meaningful portion of their day, while allowing our team the appropriate time frame to transition from Prime Study Space to our afternoon Mathnasium instruction and math homework tutoring for our Mathletes.  The four-hour block, in addition to class schedules, can also be used for students to connect during “office hours” many teachers are holding before and after school or for finishing homework.

Will you be teaching my child?

Prime Study Space is intended to provide a learning focused environment for a child’s distance learning or digital academy.  We will not be directly teaching your child, as we do not wish to disrupt their respective school and teacher’s learning plans. Light homework help may be given if our facilators have time to do so.

Will my child be able to do their Mathnasium session during Prime Study Space time?

We will not be conducting Mathnasium instruction during that time for students who are enrolled in both our Prime Study Space program and Mathnasium math tutoring.  Our regular Mathnasium online math tutoring hours in the afternoon will only be available for Mathnasium instruction.

Snapchat, Texting, Video Games?

Prime Study Space, and our team’s goal, is to keep students engaged with their daily learning assignments from their respective schools, while avoiding these types of distractions. Our team will aim to keep your students on task and provide updates on behavior and progress.

What about break times?

Again, our goal is to facilitate a student’s distance or digital learning during Prime Study Space.  If their schedule permits a break, we’re all for it.  Our team is working to finalize potential activities for breaks that allow for our students to have some fun but remain safe and socially distanced.

How many Mathnasium team members will be working each day?

We intend to have no more than 12 students enrolled, maintaining a 6 to 1 student to staff ratio or less.  All of our team members go through an extensive interview process, background checks and appropriate training both during their initial on-boarding and throughout their time with our learning center.

Can my child stay later than 12:00 p.m.?

No.  We request all students be picked up promptly at 12:00 p.m.  As referenced previously, our team will need time to transition from Prime Study Space to our afternoon Mathnasium instruction and math homework tutoring.

Will food or meals be provided?

We are not able to provide meals, but students may bring a snack and a screw top or sealed water bottle.  Due to potential food allergies, no peanuts or peanut based food items are permitted.
