All month long, we've been counting down to our Annual TriMathlon with a very special TriMathlon Warm-Up Wednesday giveaway! Hosted at participating Mathnasium Centers in the U.S. and Canada, the TriMathlon is our fun, free elementary school math competition open to kids in grades 2 through 5. On Monday, Jordan has 120 coins. Each day, Jordan spends 14 coins. How many coins will Jordan have on each day of the week from Tuesday to Sunday?

Magic Squares is all about mathematical creativity—create your own number sentence using the given selection of numbers in the Magic Square.
Using the numbers in the Magic Square above, make the following statement true: ____ + ____ = 18.
How many possible answers are there and what are the answers?
Answer: There are five possible answers: 0 + 18, 2 + 16, 7 + 11, 8 + 10, 5 + 13

Mental Math Workout
Every year, TriMathletes demonstrate their creativity, number sense, and mathematical agility by participating in the Mental Math Workout! Set aside your calculator, pencil, and paper and enter our algorithm-free zone. Tell us how you’d solve a math problem … the number sense way.
Dom has to add 697 + 198, but does not have a calculator or a pencil and paper to show his work. If you were Dom, how would you solve this problem mentally? Describe your process!
Answer: 697 is 3 away from 700 and 198 is 2 away from 200. So we can add 700 + 200 = 900 and then subtract how far each of them were away from the next even hundred. 3 + 2 = 5, and 900 – 5 = 895. So the answer is 895.

Our final Warm-Up Wednesday reminds you of a very important TriMathlon rule. Latecomers will not be admitted into the center once the competition has started, so put on those punctuality pants and arrive on time!
One center’s TriMathlon event starts at 9 am. It takes you 10 minutes to shower, 10 minutes to get dressed, 20 minutes to eat breakfast, 5 minutes to do some last minute review, and 30 minutes to get to the center. What is the latest you can wake up in order to make it to the center on time?
