ALERT

Due to COVID-19 Center is changing all the instruction to Live Instruction. For June: Monday through Friday 10 am - 4 pm. For July Monday through Friday 10 am - 1 pm and 3 pm - 5 pm.

Our Team

Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting; our unique approach enables us to explain concepts really well and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn! Read below to learn more about our talented team:

Owner/ Center DirectorRachel Hsueh, Owner/ Center Director

Rachel graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration and an Accounting minor. She has enjoyed solving Math problems since her early school years. During the school period, she had a lot of passion for Math, especially Algebra and Probabilities. With the Mathnasium Method, she realized a brand new skill to help children to be successful in math. Rachel has always been passionate for helping people and sharing her knowledge of learning. After her first child was born, she recognized how important it is for our children to grow up with the confidence of an effective learning environment. One of Rachel's goals is to provide well-established fundamental math skills to our children because she believes it will give them the confidence and positive attitude toward their math learning journey.

 

Megan Chu, Assistant Director

Megan graduated from George Mason University with a Master's in Early Childhood Education in May 2019. Raised in Burke, Virginia, Megan attended White Oaks Elementary School and Lake Braddock Secondary School. She has always had a passion working with children and is currently working as a first grade teacher in FCPS. Megan has been part of the Mathnasium team since February 2014, and she enjoys being able to help students of all ages learn, understand, and enjoy math!

 

Steven Vu, Lead Instructor 

Steven is currently a student at George Mason University studying computer science. He went to Cardinal Forest, Keene Mill, and White Oaks Elementary School, and later Lake Braddock Secondary School for both middle and high school. He has always had a passion and love for math as a subject and enjoys teaching others what he knows. He has been helping family and friends with math for a long time now and has decided to broaden his range and help even more people learn math. 

 

Zahra Alisa, Winter/Summer Lead Instructor  

Zahra is currently in her second year at the University of Virginia's School of Nursing. She previously attended Little Run Elementary School and Lake Braddock Secondary School. She has been working at Mathnasium since 2015 and has not only loved watching the Mathnasium students grow and learn, but has had the privilege of growing and learning alongside them. In her free time, she's involved in different community organizations around her university, such as University Programs Council and Student Council.

 

 

Tedi Mitiku, Winter/Summer Lead Instructor

Tedi is currently a freshman in the 2019-2020 school year at Cornell University majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Philosophy. Tedi grew up in Burke, Virginia, attending Kings Park and Keene Mill Elementary Schools before attending Lake Braddock. Tedi has always expressed interest in school and academics and loves giving back to help others find love in academics. In his free time, Tedi loves to workout, hang out with friends, and work on projects. Tedi loves math and is passionate about helping others achieve academic success!

Ryan McGowan, Lead Instructor Ryan is currently a senior  at Lake Braddock Secondary School. He was raised in Burke and attended Kings Glen Elementary prior to Lake Braddock. Ryan has coached basketball for two years and loves working with children. Ryan hopes to be a teacher and is passionate about math and wants to inspire children to love learning. 

 

Joyce Yoon, Lead Instructor  

Joyce Yoon is currently a sophomore at Lake Braddock Secondary School in the 2018-19 school year. Joyce attended Bonnie Brae and White Oaks for Elementary school. Previously, she volunteered to tutor kids at Annandale High school in Peer to Peer (P2P). Joyce is also active in her schools Math Honor Society, and Science Olympiad Team. In her free time, Joyce likes to run and play the guitar. Her favorite thing working at Mathnasium is getting to use her passion for math and spread it to kids and students.

 

Linda Wu, Lead Instructor Linda is currently a senior at W. T. Woodson High School. As an active member of several honor societies, Linda has lots of tutoring experience and has learned to love the gratification from helping a student learn! She is passionate about the quality of education children receive and vows to give each student 100% of her attention when working with them. Outside of school and work, her time is spent working on her start-up, volunteering in her community, serving as a regional officer for Technology Student Association, among others.

Joshau Oliver, Lead Instructor Joshua is a current Junior at Lake Braddock Secondary School. Previously, he attended Kings Park and Kings Glen Elementary School. Joshua has been interested in math ever since he firsts entered a school and has always had great experiences working with children. In his free time, Joshua is captain of a developmental frisbee team at Lake Braddock, which has transferred into his quality of teaching at Mathnasium. Joshua's main goal at Mathnasium is to help others find a passion and create a welcoming environment to learn.

Grace Moon, Lead Instructor Grace is currently a junior at Lake Braddock Secondary School. In the past, she attended Stenwood and White Oaks. She has enjoyed solving math problems ever since she learned the concept of mathematics. Grace also loves working with kids, and in her free time she plays around with her baby brother. Outside of school, Grace reads and draws. Grace’s goal is to help students at Mathnasium have a joyful learning experience, and to support students in striving for success. 

 

Samir Instructor, Instructor Samir Iqbal is currently a first-year student at the University of Virginia. He was raised in Burke and went to Sangster Elementary School and Lake Braddock Secondary School. He has always had a strong passion for mathematics and ensuring that all students have the ability to understand it completely. In high school, he helped his classmates and peers with tutoring in-school or after school. He enjoys his job very much because he gets to see students learn and prosper every day of work. 

 

Alice Wanner, Instructor  

Alice is currently a junior at Robinson Secondary School for the 2019-2020 school year. Previously, she attended Oak View Elementary School. Alice has always always found math interesting and began tutoring other students through Math Honor Society. In addition, Alice enjoys working on the yearbook staff at Robinson and attending German language classes on the weekend. She is very excited to help others and share her passion for math. 

 

Stella Chiou, Instructor   

Stella is a senior at Lake Braddock Secondary School for the 2019-2020 school year. She attended Orange Hunt Elementary School and Sangster Elementary School, and has been at Lake Braddock since 7th grade. Stella loves to help people and share her love of math with others. Her previous tutoring experience includes tutoring students within her school in chemistry and Japanese. Stella joined Mathnasium in June 2019, and looks forward to providing guidance to the kids at Mathnasium.

 

Samuel Yoon, Instructor  

Samuel (Sam) is currently a senior at Lake Braddock Secondary School in the 2019-20 school year. Sam was born in Texas but moved to northern Virginia at a young age. Previously, he attended White Oaks Elementary School. Before coming to Mathnasium, Sam was involved in P2P at Centreville High School. Currently, Sam is involved in several clubs that work on bettering the community, including Key Club and Green Club. Sam enjoys teaching students at Mathnasium because he can see the academic growth they go through over time.

 

Will Luelf, Instructor  

Will graduated from Lake Braddock Secondary School and is now attending George Mason University, studying Electrical Engineering.  During Elementary, Middle, and Highschool Will has enjoyed Math, and participated in Compacted and Honors level math classes all throughout those years.  Will knows the importance of having help when running into challenges with Math and he also knows the excitement that comes with overcoming the obstacles. Will’s goal is to help kids at Mathnasium find joy in learning Math too.

 

Rachana Reddy, Instructor  Rachana is currently a senior at  W.T. Woodson High School. She attended Oakton and Mosby Woods Elementary School as well as Frost Middle School. Rachana has always enjoyed learning math and teaching it to others. She has tutored through volunteer organizations at her local library as well as through honor societies in school. Rachana's goal is for students at Mathnasium to succeed academically and eventually, love and appreciate math!
 
Nancy Le, Instructor  Nancy is currently a senior at W.T. Woodson High School.  She was in the Math and Science program at Rippon Middle School. She has always loved math. She had volunteered to tutor kids after school when she attended Forest Park High School. That's when she discovered her passion for teaching kids math. She joined the Mathnasium Team to
continue to help kids.
 

 

Jake Keeney, Instructor  Jake is currently a senior at Robinson Secondary School and is an IB Diploma Candidate. He is an active member in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Rambunctious Theater, and Robinson Rifle. Jake loves math and science and plans to study aerospace engineering in college. He volunteers regularly with FBLA where he was spoken in front of over 2000 people and taught elementary school students business skills through Junior Achievement. In his free time, Jakes enjoys reading, exercise, and hanging out with friends. He joined Mathnasium to spread his love of math and to help kids both understand math and excel it in.
