Tahereh Afjei is the proud owner and Centre Director of Mathnasium of Cliffside. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Saskatchewan and brings over 25 years of experience as a math teacher, Vice Principal, and Principal at schools around the world.
She has taught extensively in the International Baccalaureate (IB) system and remains passionate about making math meaningful and accessible. Tahereh believes math builds critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Her greatest reward is seeing students succeed and reach their full potential through the power of math.
Larry Martinek, creator of the Mathnasium Method™, developed the curriculum to solve a critical problem he saw in math education: the gap between basic skills and advanced learning. With decades of experience as a teacher, consultant, and father to a mathematically gifted child, Larry blended proven techniques into a method focused on number sense and true understanding.
Rather than relying on rote memorization, Larry’s approach teaches students to think like mathematicians—building the instincts, logic, and confidence needed to succeed in school and in life.
Renat is a passionate math enthusiast and a Computer Science student at the University of Toronto. His love for numbers started early, and he competed in math contests such as the Cayley Waterloo. Even in high school, Renat explored advanced topics far beyond the curriculum.
At Mathnasium, Renat uses his logical thinking and coding skills to make math engaging and intuitive for students. His goal is to inspire curiosity and build a strong foundation in every child he teaches.
Fahim is an Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Toronto who enjoys exploring math and science concepts that go beyond the classroom. He believes that strong mathematical skills are key to building a solid academic and professional future.
At Mathnasium, Fahim combines his technical expertise with a passion for teaching, helping students gain confidence and clarity as they tackle new challenges.
Rasik’s passion for math began in childhood and continues to drive his work as an educator. He believes that curious learners thrive when they build a solid foundation in math, helping them better understand the world around them.
Rasik creates a warm and inclusive learning environment where students feel empowered to grow. By tailoring his instruction to each child, he fosters not just math proficiency—but a lifelong love of learning and problem-solving.
